A discussion is when 2 or more people exchange points of view isn't it? You give yours, I give mine, we may never agree but hey ho.

"That is fine but to suggest that it's cups or titles that defines it is just the same as suggesting it's cups or titles that defines history."

What a stupid stupid thing to say.
Consistency, regularity, longevity is football pedigree.

A club that has been in the top flight in the past 80 yrs has a greater pedigree than a club who did it for the first 20 but not the last 80.

The club that wins the league say once a decade has a greater pedigree than a club who won it once in the last decade, or 100 yrs ago.

The OPs list told something about the history of the top flight. If I could get the per decade stats it would tell you even more.

Over the history of the modern game (1880-present) , some clubs have a very good pedigree indeed. Some have had theirs fade away into the history books. Some have never had any.

Does it take into account the age of a club? For example a club like Totthenham, founded in 1882 with a 23 year head start over a team like Chelsea would surely expect to be further ahead of a team formed in 1905 considering how much better than us they think they are.

Spurs may have been formed as a club earlier, but actually entered the league in 1908, a year after Chelsea, so Chelsea in fact had a head start on Spurs.

Where are West Ham Maf?

----

It's been a millennium since Spurs' had small upper hand over West Ham United.

So Spurs never qualified for top flight football in their first 30 years of existence, you live and learn. Chelsea a head start? the graph is about performance and time spent in the top flight as oppsed to other leagues, all you are saying is it took Spurs a longer time to get into the top flight for the first time, that isn't Chelsea getting a head start, that is a failing for Spurs. In 1905 when we were formed we entered in the 2nd division.

MafiaBoy':

West Ham have only had three decent players in their entire history, Moore, Peters and Hurst, and one of them jumped ship and joined Spurs.

That is an opinion, not a fact an opinion based on your chosen parameters, ask a dowzen people in a pub and you will get a variety of definitions.

Why, I do not attempt to define a clubs worth by pedigree, history or success, if it isn't clear to you by now then let me tell you whilst I understand people want to wrap things up nicely into something they think they can understand or justify my experience tells me that in the main they simply boil down to opinions that, if shared, are always open to discussion or challenge.

Sir Trevor Brooking, Billy Bonds, Lampard Sr, Alan Devonshire...etc..are all great players. Only second grade players from West Ham joined Spurs.

About Peters, you paid a British record transfer fee(at that time) to snatch him.

Winners are remembered
--

By your logic, winners of St.John's paint trophy are most remembered than Champions League finalists?

The stats do define which is a better club, over any given period of time.

Like the OPs list does.

Stats of course don't define TRADITION.
But then tradition cannot be QUANTITATIVELY measured.

Billy Bonds was a loyal player, but nowhere near great.

The other three

Muffia, your idea of greatness falls a long way short of what us Spurs supporters would call great.

They were only any good when wearing a white shirt.
Made them think they were playing for Spurs.

To be fair West Ham don't celebrate draws at Stamford Brigde.

Spurs on the other hand...
