Yeah I suppose they would be inviting Forrest over AV then Ned?

I don't think Celtic or Rnagers would be invited intoa super league.

Celtic qualified for the group stages of the champiosn league tjis year for the first time in four years I think (correct me if I am wrong). Both are seen by Uefa and clubs across Europe as cannon foder now.

West Ham probably have more chance of a call up to any super league than Rangers or Celtic!

@Gaz he wasn't having a go at Arsenal. Arsenal fans were there to see Arsenal no matter who they are playing. FFS Rangers fans aren't turning up in the 3rd to watch our opposition.

------------------

That's not the point though, Castle.

He said that the Arsenal fans struggling to sell out their stadium against West Ham (which was a stupid example as they were playing at Upton Park at the weekend), where in reality they got 60,000 against Coventry City in the Carling Cup a couple of weeks back, and get full-houses every 2nd week. So he's talking nonsense, as usual.

castle i understand why you might come to that conclusion but lets be honest here there are dozens of clubs all over Europe that are light years ahead of both celtic and rangers in terms of finance and player development.

If this league was to come to fruition i would think there would be some kind of buy in fee that neither of our respected clubs would be able to afford.

Going back to the OP, there is no bad blood whatsoever between Rangers and Aston Villa.
I don't know why Green has chosen to specifically make an example of Villa either

He may well have a point regarding the revenue comparison between Man Utd and Villa, though may not have used his "way with words" to get the point across.
At the end of the day though, very few clubs have the same earning potential as Man Utd, and in order to get this revenue, they have to play someone.
It it wasn;t Villa syphoning off some of that revenue, then it would simply be one of the clubs in the proposed European League.

I'm not going to bother getting into the argument about European success.
Lets just leave it at the fact that pretty much all of our relative successes probably came before either of us were born. That much speaks for itself really

..."But we're less mince than you..." doesn;t really cut it as an argument

BCFC the reason they are seen 'cannon fodder' as you put it is lack of tv money and nothing else. That was Greens point.

If you stuck both Rangers and Celtic into the Prem or a 'Super League' do you honestly think they'd be Cannon Fodder with the fanbase and an added £80 million in TV cash? Do you not think both clubs would be bought up by some Russian or Arab?

Celtic hadn't qualified for four years because Scotland is a small country and you only get one 'Champions League' place, and Rangers were Champions for those years.

Celtic have qualified for the 'Champions League' every season in which they won the league in the previous season for about a decade now, I think.

Celtic and Rangers' failure to qualify is mostly down to the co-efficient of the whole league...which they have no influence over. They couldn't help that the SFA allowed the Scottish Cup runners up European places, meaning clubs like Gretna, Falkirk, Dunfermline and Queen of the South decimated the co-efficient.

You'd think the chief of a club that's only 5 months old would be trying to make friends, not alienate themselves even more.

We have one of the best youth player development facilities going. It has produced lots of players. Problem is any good ones we cannot keep due to lack of tv cash in the club. They are all bought and lots were sold or taken recently due to our financial issues.

Same as Ajax and the big Dutch clubs. Stick them in a Super league with good tv money and they would be giant clubs again keeping their kids as they rightly should be.

***********************

You say this, and you may be right on paper, but this is almost entirely down to TV revenues rather than anything the clubs' fanbase actually brings to the table.
Some clubs have a bucketload of money but still noone interested in watching them play.
Obviously they won't be bringing their TV deal (structured around the league they currently play in) to the table, so strip that back and it leaves very few clubs who have the same earning POTENTIAL as Rangers and Celtic.
We're stagnating because of the fact we're by far and away the most supported clubs in a tiny country with a media controlled outside of the country and unable to compete with the meagre contracts on offer elsewhere, let alone one that could keep us competitive.

I think that each team should play in their own country, it is not the EPL's fault that Scotland is such a dump and no TV company wants to invest up there.

I cannot see a European league involving the big clubs happening. I can see teams like Rangers and Celtic joining a European league involving teams from Scandinavia, France, possibly Italy and some Eastern European teams but teams from Spain and England will keep their own leagues and the top top clubs ie Man U Barca etc will be happy with the money they make from the champions league and the pre season tours they do in the far east and USA.

I am sorry Scotland but your league is poor and nobody wants to help you out!

Depending on how tough Platini is on FFP sanctions a few of the rich clubs may be pushed to the edge regarding a European Super League?

All it takes is three really big clubs to stand up to UEFA and then that's that, in my opinion.

So why were scottish clubs better in Europe in the early 80's? Apart from one of Scotlands "big two" Rangers?

bcfc83 - You really think your league is great?

Your Sky League is entirely bought and paid for by them, and you are now effectively their b1tches
If they pull the rug from under you, the obscene amount of money you're playing very average players will soon cause your league to come crashing down.

England and Spain have these so-called "good leagues" because they have been vastly over-inflated by Sky money

Keep them

the Champions League is already a 2 league race, so what difference would it make if all other European countries pulled out of them, aside from your own boredom

Bcfc it's not Scotland's a dump you muppet.

It's we've got a population of only £6 million most of whom support Rangers and Celtic.

European leagues are going to happen.

If Scotland was any good they wouldn't be begging the rest of Europe to help out their football teams.

It you can't stay afloat without the backing of the big boys of Europe you should do us all a favour and just close down your league or all become part timers like the leagues in other back water places like San Marino and Belarus.

Before all the Sky Cash Scottish clubs pumped English ones year in year out. As was said. It's not Sky paying for the EPL as it's such a good league it's the SKY money that makes it the league it is. If Sky pull out their will be a total collapse. There's already no English players and lots of Foreigners. Top 6/7 are good and every other club like Villa is average see the Europa League for evidence of this.

Actually the league my team is in is the championship and we still get more from our TV deal than anybody in Scotland.

More people watch the Championship across the world than watch Scottish football, apart from when maybe Rangers Celtic play, but most have got bored of that fixture these days after you have played each other 100 times in the last two seasons. That won't be happening any time soon though!

Begging the rest of Europe? The only beggars are smaller English clubs. being the beatch of SKY.

The rest of Europe want to breakaway due the SKY Duopoly killing the game.

The championship is another inflated league purely by TV.

Both Rangers and Celtic games are watched by millions worldwide no matter who they play BCFC.

I have no interest in watching the Championship nor many EPL games like you have no interest in Scottish games. There is massive worldwide viewing of Rangers in any game they play.
