"So why were scottish clubs better in Europe in the early 80's? Apart from one of Scotlands "big two" Rangers?"
School football was alive and well, and playing in the street still happened, nae video games.........
Actually the league my team is in is the championship and we still get more from our TV deal than anybody in Scotland.
-----------------
Exactly......
And your team is still utter pash
Birmingham City? Unheard of outside of the UK, mate. Let's be honest here. As much use to the football world as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Nobody watches English football outside the top few clubs. Nobody will watch the championship abroad hardly either.
This coming from the Liverpool board btw.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/15269831
I have travelled to many parts of the world and I have never seen a Scottish league game being shown live. I was over in China a few years back and they were showing a league cup game between Brentford and some other small club over an Scottish football game.
I have seen a few Rangers and Celtic tops on my travels but when you speak to most of them they always have an Englisg team that they support too!
We maybe unheard of outside the UK, we have no delusions of grander. We no we are not one of the best teams in England let alone Europe but we don't go around thinking we are.
However we do have supporters clubs in USA, Australia, Norway, HK and Ireland to name a few.
Schizophrenia,
Im quite sure I must know you from here or BBC606
Back in the day we were champions at tree climbing as well
My cousin lives in Indonesia and they were even shown the Aberdeen v Motherwell game a few weeks ago, and many other SPL games.
Oh, they were showing Brentford in some Chinese bar? Must be bigger than Celtic then.......
Where do those supporters club meet, a phonebox? Any club can have a handful of expat fans in random countries.
Not one of the best teams in England? That's being kind, you're not even in the top 3 teams in Birmingham.
Nothing like a pompous little englander to unite the old firm
bcfc there's 20 000 members of the Rangers supporters club in athens for example and the same for Celtic. The back pages in Greece have about 5 pages of Scottish football on it. In Turkey. Scottish football is watched after the Turkish and EPL. It;s watched a lot in the Netherlands as well. As I said we have 250 supporters clubs all over the world. How many BCFC one or Villa ones are there?
You have no emotional connection to Scottish football, so you don't care about it, as I don't care about English games, except the big ones, but believe me it's watched more than the Championship.
On another note BCFC how's Burke doing for you lot? A product of our youth academy btw.

Looked at the table and expected Birmingham to be at least in the play-off places......

towton i was referring to BCFC's daft comments re scottish football.
If you look back i have spoken about charles greens stupid comments. Also it could be argued CG is a pompous little englander.
Burke isn't having the best season, he had a great season last year but his form dipped a bit this year as i think he expected to be off in the summer. He scored the winner at Brighton a couple of weeks ago and hopefully will start to find some form soon.
Yes we are poor at the moment and I can admit that. As said earlier I do not believe we are the greatest team in the world, unlike some Rangers and Celtic fans who believe their teams deserve more riches because of something that happened probably before many of them were born.
We have had our off field problems too, mainly our owner being in court next month on money laundering charges and having his house repossessed. We are in talks with three parties to but the club though, hopefully it will all turn round for us soon but if not I have seen us in worst places than we are now, Rotherham being one of them!
No Rangers and Celtic think they will get riches due to the size of the fanbase which is current, not something that happened ages ago. Both been in Euro finals relatively recently and both won league titles in last two years.
unlike some Rangers and Celtic fans who believe their teams deserve more riches because of something that happened probably before many of them were born
---------------------------
It's nothing to do with us winning the European Cup.
Celtic have one of the biggest fanbases in the world, and we have 7th highest average attendance in Europe over the last 10 years.......we were 13th last season, and that's taking into account the expensive cost of tickets.
You talk about your handful of supporters clubs in USA & Ireland, we have the more supporters clubs in North America than anyone else.
Celtic are a huge club, even if you can't admit it.
Charles Green is running his mouth about a lot of things including the issue of "the big clubs subsidising the smaller clubs".
He seems to forget that the honest taxpayers of Scotland are subsidising the "tax cheats"! Whenever a business/individual cheats on taxes then someone else picks up the mess!
Green needs to shut his mouth, maintain a low profile, and work on getting his club back to the Premier!
Gaz,
Quality, not quantity
The stirling scorer works in Aldi? but I work in Aldi! Although im not a pro/semi pro footballer
Very unfair and disgusting comment tbh. We are the 4th most successful English team ever, Yes it's been a while since we've lifted a trophy, but we've done alot for the game, we were the founder members of the football league! The money is about greed, its the way the "business" of sky and the premier league has gone. The smaller games of each league are what football is all about, you might as well say we should get rid of amateur football because nobody watches it! Going to a league 2 club away in the league cup on a tuesday night is what football is about.
Rangers f'd up big time and just because they're now so rubbisheven part time lads can get one over them, they're clammering to be involved in some super league.. if anything Rangers should be banned from European competition (Even though they can't qualify anyway ) I ouwld love to say birmingham are useless, but they're not, still a long standing football club . the smaller clubs of this country make football what it is.. man united v barcelona would get boring after a while if it was regular. I've never been a big fan of the Irish and celtic, but they have far more class and everything else about them than Rangers. Long live in the dumps at the bottom of scottish football
Funky - you should check your facts.
Rangers COULD qualify through Scottish Cup, but at present ARE banned - for 3 years in fact.
What was said was that for a club like Villa to take out almost as much as Man Utd is ridiculous - what was also said is that very few EPL games are even sell outs.
Money certainly revitalised the game in England, but TV companies are now wanting more.
Just as in Scotland, you could say it was either Rangers or Celtic who would win the top league, you can say it is one from 3 who will win the EPL (Man U, Chelsea, Man City). To have a 2 horse race in a league of 12 is one thing, to have a 3 horse race in a league of 24, with the amount of money involved, is beginning to become unacceptable to many of the money holders in the game.

You're not banned. Any Newco can't compete in Europe for 3 years because UEFA require all clubs to have filed 3 years audited accounts before entering European competition, and clearly any new club won't be able to do this for at least 3 years.
For a football club chairman this is a disgusting lack of respect. I'm not even a villa fan and found it offensive! Ironically I would probably consider Villa to be a bigger club than Rangers even before they went bankrupt!
Apologies, didn't check my facts. I don't like the sky monopoly full stop. Football should go back to the way it was 20 years ago in terms that money wasn't a motivator, winning was! The whole of the premier league is a disgrace, the fans don't care about money.. but it's not the fans that matter anymore. To a certain extent i understand his point, but to be so disrespectful about it. Without all the money, utd Arsenal liverpool everton villa newcastle would be biggest teams in England. I see us as a bigger club than man city.. why? because we've got facts, tradition. Not just trophies but statistics.. 4th most successful english team..more england representatives than any other English club. I don't give a nuts toss about the world audience on the premier league and all its hype. Football used to be great, actually about the 90 minutes.
"I would probably consider Villa to be a bigger club than Rangers"
Each to their own I suppose.
I would personally consider my dong to be bigger than Ron Jeremy's although it's probably about 1/4 the size to any normal person. And I'm not even a Villa fan...
