Charles Green Attacks Aston Villa

I would personally consider my dong to be bigger than Ron Jeremy's although it's probably about 1/4 the size to any normal person. And I'm not even a Villa fan...

Funky, I actually agree with your last post.
Football has become all about business and money rather than the fans that made it what it is in the first place, and that is entirely down to Sky and the clubs who embraced it (I include Rangers in this).

The European Cup was turned into the "Champions" League (Where ironically it was then moulded slowly into what Sky had been pushing for in the first place, and now contains about 20% Champions).

All half decent players are being swallowed up by 2 leagues.

Many once great clubs across Europe have been effectively turned into "feeder clubs" for those that have all the money.

Players have become mercenaries and you rarely see "One club men" nowadays.

Wages have become so disproportionate that the average player can't even near relate to the average punter.

Tickets have gone up in price tenfold and have priced out many of the people who helped get the club to where it is nowadays anyway.

I do think Green was being disrespectful in the way he spoke about Villa, but even with a budget 10 times what we have, you must also recognise that Villa have next to no chance of winning the league in it's current format again?

For any fan, it's a pretty sad state of affairs to see all the money and all of the competitions and seedings have been slowly twisted in favour of the selected few.

..................

Yes I totally agree, we can't possibly win it. My dad's always said back in the 70's and 80's anybody had a chance of winning the league that year. The likes of Gareth barry and milner would love to be still playing for us.. I mean in terms of playing and enjoying it, not bringing in the cash and a few medals. It makes me angry because we have done so much for the game, we had done more for football than man united had ever done pre 1960.

Given what Charles Green has already done for our club, I'm prepared to overlook this comment. However, if he had not said what he did we would not have had this discussion and never had the utter gem of a comment such as this.................

I don't think Green was going out of his way to be disrespectful; It's simply that he's living with an illusion. It's the same illusion that thinks Rangers and Celtic ought to be part of the PL. The fact is that both clubs would struggle in the Championship. When they play in the Champions League they never get very far. If they did manage to get into the PL they would say goodbye to Champions League football. A European League wouldn't help them either; they'd be bouncing along on the bottom, not very nice for their fans.

The current Champions League is probably the best compromise for those who regularly get into it and enjoy at least reasonable success. It boosts their income, whilst retaining the strengths of being in their own domestic league. They've got enough income to have a strong enough squad to play in both.

The argument about there being just 3 contenders for the PL title doesn't stack up. In the past it's often been just 1 or 2. If anything, the title is more open these days than at any time in the past. Top teams can have bad runs, the same way that those "below" them have good ones. Ferguson reckons it's very difficult for any team these days to keep at their best for more than 3 or 4 years.

No, Green may wish for a European League in which Rangers can have a guaranteed place, but it won't happen. He'd be better off campaigning for raised standards in Scottish football, which desperately needs them.

Jesus Christ. Do you know anything about football or do you just hate giving any credit to Scottish clubs because you're bitter?

What Championship club could be unbeaten in 7 European games, including winning 3 away games and have 4 points after 2 matches in the Champions League?

So you don't think that Celtic would be able to buy a higher standard of player with the ridiculous TV revenue you get down there?

Can't stand arrogant English bassa's like you

Papa Sasac,

"I would personally consider my dong to be bigger than Ron Jeremy's although it's probably about 1/4 the size to any normal person".

Papa,
Not are you a vulgar person, but "1/4 the size" is an extreme exaggeration on your part!

It was a poor choice of words and should probably apologise.

The point he was making was 100% correct though was it not?

For all the bluster on this thread I have not seen anyone say why he was wrong.

Villa are looking like relegation candidates yet earn similar amounts to potential title winners due to the grossly inflated tv deal. That's the point he was making.

It is nonsense to say Rangers & Celtic would struggle in the Championship, given the massive increase in income such a move would bring to both clubs.

I'm a Villa fan and I actually agree with him. We are absolutely useless. Given the history of the club and everything, we are probably run even worse than Liverpool is. And to think that so many Villa fans still defend the board and what they're doing.

Still, he must have some issue with Aston Villa if he felt he had to use us as the only example.

posted on 13/10/12

There is no issue with Villa specifically. TO turn it around, why are Chelsea & Man City fans not raging that he used Man Utd as an example from the top end?

It was an EXAMPLE of how much money is doled out to teams regardless of their performance.

posted on 13/10/12

it was undignified and unprofessional for him to insult another club in that way. He is doing a poor job of upholding the traditions and ethos of your club.

His comments were that of a small time club.

posted on 13/10/12

Oh FFS, I give up.

Aye, yer right, he should be hung drawn quartered, all his assets given to Celtic and his name never spoken of again....

Or, you could all calm the feck down and stop obsessing.

posted on 13/10/12

nothing that drastic Davie. maybe a public apology and the promise that he will wind his neck in. doubt it though as the man seems determined to grab headlines with daft comments.

Why is he talking of a Euro League he should be more concerned if his current manager has the ability to compete in the 3rd division of Scottish football.

Small time mentality is how it comes across

try and look beyond club loyalties for a second and read what he said. He's made a clown of himself, just because he's representing rangers doesn't mean he can do no wrong. Try not to be so narrow minded, it's not good for your health.

posted on 13/10/12

I'M being narrow minded?
Eh?

Take a look at yourself.

Guy comments on something which has ALREADY been reported the previous month, and draws a comparison to back up his argument.

But because it is Rangers, Celtic fans jump all over it like a pack of wolves.

Seriously, you need to stop obsessing.

posted on 13/10/12

When the argument is lost people always fall back on the old tired boring cliches.

'yoor pure obsessive man, cuz ye made a comment on a public forum'

CG made an unnecessary and dismissive comment about a club that has absolutely nothing to do with your club and you don't see what was wrong with it???

funny that fellow rangers fans can see that the comments were stupid and ill adviced. I suppose they're obsessive as well.

posted on 13/10/12

also he uses Villa as an example of a 'useless' club, this is coming from a man who has publicly stated he knows NOTHING about football and that his main interest is horse racing..... who the feck is he to comment on the standard of any club other than his own.

I always remember being told to be careful who I criticise on the way up as they'll be waiting for you on your way down. In Charles Greens case, he can't really sink any lower.

They have to comment on here as they don't have any fans on their own boards.
