The National Grid has been fined £3.2m after a pylon worker sustained “catastrophic and life-changing” injuries from a 33,000-volt shock.

Justin Hollins received burns to 40% of his body and nerve damage at Treforest Industrial Estate in Rhondda Cynon Taf on 3 December 2020.

The power to the pylon should have been switched off while the work was carried out because it was impossible to maintain a safe working distance from the live wire, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

A second company, 4 Power Ltd, was fined £80,000. Both companies admitted guilt and apologised to Mr Hollins, a father-of-two.

Oasis may have angered fans with price of their concert tickets, but the appetite for their music is undiminished.

The band's debut album, Definitely, Maybe, has returned to the top of the UK album charts, a week after their reunion shows were announced.

The record, which debuted at number one when it was first released in 1994, is back in the same position, thanks to a 30th anniversary edition that includes several outtakes and unreleased demos.

Two more Oasis albums re-entered the Top 10, with their greatest hits compilation Time Flies at number three; and their 1995 classic (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? at number four.

The Official Charts Company said sales of Definitely, Maybe had risen by 408% week-on-week.

Fifty per cent of its sales were on vinyl - and the album also tops the official vinyl chart this week.

It is the first time the band have topped the countdown since 2010, when Time Flies was first released.

Renewed interest in the band also propelled their 1995 single Live Forever to a new heights. Originally peaking at number 10 on its release, the song made it to number eight on this week's chart.

Italy lost Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori to injury as they recorded a surprise 3-1 win in France in their Nations League opener.

The Gunners player was hurt in a freak collision as Ousmane Dembele was tackled by another player and caught him on the back of his leg with his studs as he landed.

He tried to play on for a few minutes but had to be replaced.

Bradley Barcola gave France the lead after just 12 seconds, intercepting an Italy pass before bursting into the box and slotting home.

Italy were almost level five minutes later but Davide Frattesi's header hit the bar.

Federico Dimarco levelled with a sensational volley from Sandro Tonali's flicked pass.

It was Newcastle midfielder Tonali's first international game since September 2023, having recently returned from a 10-month ban for breaching gambling rules.

Inter Milan's Frattesi put Italy ahead early in the second half with a clinical finish from Mateo Retegui's ball.

Giacomo Raspadori beat William Saliba with a fine bit of control from a Destiny Udogie pass before adding Italy's third.

London-born Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise made his senior debut for France from the start. He had played for Les Bleus in this summer's Olympic Games.

Britain's Jack Draper threw up on court during a dramatic US Open semi-final defeat where world number one Jannik Sinner ultimately proved a step up in class.

The 22-year-old British number one's breakout run at a Grand Slam tournament was ended in a 7-5 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 defeat in New York.

In the biggest match of his fledgling career, 25th seed Draper caused problems for Sinner in a tight first set.

But, as the contest became more physical in the second set, a peaky-looking Draper vomited and was unable to inflict enough damage on Sinner's serve.

The third set quickly got out of control for Draper, who looked spent as he wearily hugged his good friend Sinner after the Italian moved into his first US Open final.

"First of all, me and Jack know each other very well - it was a very physical match. I tried to stay there mentally. It was tough," said Australian Open champion Sinner, who is aiming for the second major title of his career.

Sinner, 23, will go on to face either 12th seed Taylor Fritz or 20th seed Frances Tiafoe, who meet in an all-American semi-final later on Friday.

England gave Sri Lanka a way back into the final Test on a curious second day at The Kia Oval.

The home side squandered wickets to be bowled out for 325 before Sri Lanka reached 211-5, 114 behind.

Like the first day, bad light was a constant threat, at one stage resulting in the bewildering sight of Chris Woakes bowling four balls of off-spin.

Home captain Ollie Pope turned his century into 154 but received little support. Sri Lanka's bowlers were much improved from their poor showing on Friday and, with England's aggression tipping into recklessness, the hosts lost their last seven wickets for 64 runs.

England's ultra-positivity carried into their bowling and field settings, probably because of an eagerness to capitalise on the conditions.

Sri Lanka raced to 50 inside nine overs, led by Pathum Nissanka's 40-ball half-century. He was not deterred by opening partner Dimuth Karunaratne being run-out by Olly Stone's direct hit.

Nissanka became the first Test wicket for debutant Josh Hull when he drove to a diving Woakes at extra cover. With Stone taking two wickets in as many overs, Sri Lanka lost three for seven to slip to 93-5.

Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis battled and, when the light worsened after tea, England had to bowl spin. Crucially, Hull dropped De Silva on 23.

Sri Lanka were making good progress until the umpires decided it was too dark. By that point, De Silva had 64 and Mendis 54, their stand worth an unbroken 108.

As his old side head to a country he still views as a "second home", former Northern Ireland striker Warren Feeney is expecting Michael O'Neill's squad to receive a "hostile" welcome in Sunday's Nations League encounter against Bulgaria.

Northern Ireland's four previous visits to the country have been qualifiers staged in the capital Sofia, the most recent a 2-1 defeat in October 2021, but this League C3 contest will instead be played at the Stadion Hristo Botev in Plovdiv.

Feeney coached against Botev Plovdiv during his spell as Pirin Blagoevgrad manager between 2019 and 2021 and thinks the location of the game will add to a febrile atmosphere.

"One thing about the Bulgarians is they will be a very, very hostile support. 100 percent that’s why they will have taken it out there," said the 43-year-old whose most recent managerial job was at Glentoran last season.

“It’ll be a big atmosphere, probably the best atmosphere I experienced.

"There are probably things you would not get away with back home that you get away with out there and it certainly brings an atmosphere. You’re going into the unknown."

Former first minister Vaughan Gething has announced he will not be standing for re-election in 2026.

In July he stepped down from the top job just four months after getting it.

Mr Gething had been embroiled in controversy since taking over in March, and was dogged by questions over a £200,000 campaign donation from a businessman convicted of environmental offences.

Now he has said he has told members of Cardiff and Penarth Labour party he will not stand again.

Davis Keillor-Dunn marked his Barnsley debut with a goal to help his new side to a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

Visiting goalkeeper Josh Griffiths was forced into an early save to keep out Barry Cotter’s well-struck 20-yard effort.

Adam Phillips then went close for the hosts, heading narrowly wide after meeting a corner from Keillor-Dunn.

Keillor-Dunn struck the opener in the 11th minute with a fine finish after latching onto a neat flick from Luca Connell.

Marc Roberts went close to putting Barnsley further ahead with a header which was tipped over by Griffiths, but Ruel Sotiriou equalised for Rovers in the 37th minute after capitalising on a defensive error.

Barnsley regained the lead after 65 minutes when Phillips found the net with a close-range header from Cotter’s cross.

Keillor-Dunn went in search of his second goal of the afternoon, receiving a flick-on from Sam Cosgrove before a last-ditch tackle cut his run short.

Connell saw a 20-yard free-kick deflected wide in the closing stages.

Northern Ireland defender Paddy McNair says the team is determined to follow up their winning start in the Nations League with another good display against Bulgaria.

McNair, who can also play in midfield, scored in Thursday night's 2-0 victory over Luxembourg at Windsor Park.

Michael O'Neill's side now travel to take on Bulgaria in Sunday evening's encounter in Plovdiv.

"It was a perfect night against Luxembourg and it was important to get the campaign off to a good start - we got a clean sheet and a very good three points," said the 29-year-old.

"Away matches are always harder but I think the group is full of confidence and hopefully we can come out with three points."

Northern Ireland are the early pacesetters in League C Group 3 after a goalless draw between Belarus and Bulgaria three days ago.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket, saying "the time is right" to move on.

Moeen played all three formats for England after making his international debut in 2014.

The 37-year-old was part of the white-ball squads that won the 50-over World Cup on home soil in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022.

He first retired from Test cricket in 2021 but came out of retirement two years later for the home Ashes series against Australia, which England ultimately drew.

Off-spinner Moeen played 68 Tests, 138 one-day internationals and 92 Twenty20s for England.

The vice-captain in the white-ball team, he also led England in one one-day international and 12 T20s.

He missed out on selection for England's upcoming white-ball series against Australia.

England went down to their worst defeat under Brendon McCullum as Pathum Nissanka's magnificent century guided Sri Lanka to a famous win at The Kia Oval.

England had the opportunity to earn a 100% home summer record for the first time in 20 years but instead paid the price for a careless display.

Though Sri Lanka lose the series 2-1, this ends a 10-match winless streak against England and, realistically, gives a measure of success to what was always likely to be a tough tour.

Below-par displays on days two and three left England up against it at the beginning of day four, when Sri Lanka resumed on 94-1, needing another 125 to reach their target of 219.

Kusal Mendis was bounced out for 39 by Gus Atkinson thanks to Shaoib Bashir's brilliant catch. Another 111 runs were still required, but any England hope was snuffed out by the composure of Nissanka and Angelo Matthews.

Nissanka had already passed three figures when Bashir missed a half-chance to catch him at third man. By then, the game had gone.

Nissanka ended unbeaten on a quite brilliant 127, Mathews on 32. Their unbroken partnership of 111 gave Sri Lanka victory by eight wickets and only a fourth Test victory in this country.

England end the summer with series wins against West Indies and Sri Lanka, though also with a sense of what might have been.

Their next Test series, in Pakistan, begins in less than a month, albeit with doubts over the schedule because of renovation works at a number of venues in the country.

An unrelenting international calendar continues on Wednesday when an almost entirely separate England squad begins a T20 series against Australia in Southampton.

Local councils have agreed to work with Manchester United to ensure the area around Old Trafford benefits from plans to redevelop the ground.

The club set up a task force chaired by Lord Sebastian Coe to explore the feasibility of renovating the stadium or building a new one.

Manchester United, Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority have entered into a partnership to ensure the plans benefit the area around the stadium.

Lord Coe said the agreement would "help fully unlock the incredibly exciting potential" of the redevelopment.

About 5,000 new homes have been included for the Trafford Wharfside area in a masterplan by Trafford Council.

Proposals for better connections to Salford and Manchester city centre have also been put forward by the council.

The partnership with United will see a new advisory team set up to guide regeneration in the area, including assessing how any new stadium would fit in to these proposals.

It is separate from the stadium task force chaired by Lord Coe, which includes Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and former Red Devils skipper Gary Neville.

The group is expected to a make a final decision over whether to pursue a £2bn plan for a new 100,000-seat stadium by the end of 2024.

Lord Coe said the "once-in-a-generation project" would see the "development of a world-class stadium for the north of England".

But it would also aim to bring "broad social and economic benefits to the local area and surrounding region".

Cristiano Ronaldo has criticised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and said the club must "rebuild everything" in order to compete for football's biggest prizes again.

The Dutch boss is under pressure after United's eighth-placed finish last season - their lowest in Premier League history - and two defeats in their opening three games at the start of this campaign.

And Ronaldo, who had two spells at the club before leaving for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, questioned Ten Hag's mentality.

"The coach says they cannot compete to win the [Premier] League and Champions League," he told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, external, which comes out on Thursday.

"As Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the league or Champions League.

"Mentally [you can] say maybe we don't have that potential, but I cannot say that. We're going to try, you have to try.

"What I wish for Manchester [United], it's what I wish for me - [to be] the best team they can.

"I love that club... I'm not that kind of guy that forgot the past."
