The Putorana Plateau or the Putorana Mountains is a mountainous area in the Russian Federation. It is a large massif or plateau crossed by mountain ranges. The nearest large settlement is Norilsk, where foreign travel is restricted.
The Putorana Nature Reserve, established in 1988 and administered from Norilsk, is a protected area covering some 1,887,251 ha (4,663,500 acres) with a buffer zone of 1,773,300 ha (4,382,000 acres). It was set up to protect the world's largest herd of wild reindeer, as well as snow sheep.
In July 2010, the Putorana Reserve was inscribed on the World Heritage List as "a complete set of subarctic and arctic ecosystems in an isolated mountain range, including pristine taiga, forest tundra, tundra and arctic desert systems, as well as untouched cold-water lake and river systems".

Kris Kristofferson, the award-winning country singer and actor who worked with Johnny Cash and Martin Scorsese, has died aged 88.
A representative said he passed away "peacefully" at his home in Hawaii on Saturday, surrounded by family.
The statement described Kristofferson as "a peacenik, a revolutionary, an actor, a superstar, a s ex symbol, and a family man."
The multi-award winner was known for his songwriting, notably credited for Me and Bobby McGee, and Help Me Make It Through the Night, among others. He also acted in the hit movie A Star Is Born.
A message from his family said they were all "so blessed" for the time they had with him.
"Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” said the message, quoted by CBS News, the BBC's US partner.
“When I got started, I was one of the people hoping to bring respect to country music,” he said, according to the family message.
“Some of the songs I had that got to be hits did that. I imagine that’s why somebody might vote me into a Hall of Fame. I know it’s not because of my golden throat.”
Kristofferson studied writing at Pomona College in California and later went to Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. He earned his masters from Oxford in 1960, then returned to the US and joined the army.
He was assigned by the military to teach literature, which he said "sounded like hell".
In 1965 he visited Nashville, and within two weeks had resigned from his army post and moved to the country music hub to pursue his music career.
The head of the Country Hall of Fame and Museum said he left behind “a resounding legacy”.
“Kris Kristofferson believed creativity is God-given, and those who ignore such a gift are doomed to unhappiness,” Kyle Young wrote on X. “He preached that a life of the mind gives voice to the soul, and his work gave voice not only to his soul but to ours.”
He won three Grammys for best country song, Help Me Make It Through the Night in 1972, and two separate duets with Rita Coolidge (1974, 1976), to whom he was married in the 1970s.
Crawley Town are set to appoint Gateshead boss Rob Elliot as their manager.
BBC Radio Newcastle has been told the 38-year-old will join the League One club, having travelled down to West Sussex on Monday for talks.
Scott Lindsey left the Reds to join League Two MK Dons on Wednesday, with Ben Gladwin installed as interim boss and taking charge of Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Bolton Wanderers.
Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Elliot and his assistant Louis Storey joined the Heed in October 2023 on a caretaker basis, before being given the roles permanently in June.
Elliot, 38, steered the club to a sixth-place finish in the National League last season but they were barred from the play-offs after failing to meet the English Football League's requirement of securing a 10-year lease on their stadium.
He has led Gateshead to fifth in the league with 23 points from 11 games so far this season.
Storey and first-team coach Anthony Sweeney will join Elliot at the League One club.
Crawley have seven points from their first seven games and are 20th in the table.
May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us.

Cymru Premier champions The New Saints held Serie A giants Fiorentina for 65 minutes before goals from Yacil Adli and substitute Moise Kean broke their resistance in their first Uefa Conference League encounter.
Craig Harrison's side were competing in a group game in Europe for the first time and for over an hour they looked like they could produce a seismic shock in Tuscany.
The visitors' excellent resistance was finally broken when Adli took advantage of TNS failing to clear as he turned and fired home in a crowded penalty area.
The second goal followed four minutes later as former Everton striker Kean slammed home from close-range at the second attempt.
Kean also missed a sitter and TNS goalkeeper Connor Roberts made several fine saves as the Welsh side impressed on their big night.

Aberdeen maintained their 100% Scottish Premiership record thanks to a late goal from Ante Palaversa and poor finishing from 10-man Hearts at Pittodrie.
Palversa crashed in a rising shot on 88 minutes following a bustling run and cut-back from fellow substitute Duk, making his first appearance of the season.
Bottom-of-the-table Hearts had gone 2-1 up through a wonderful strike from Blair Spittal only for Nicky Devlin to find a smart volleyed equaliser and Jorge Grant to pick up a second yellow card.
The Dons had made the perfect start when a heavily deflected shot from Topi Keskinen looped in after just two minutes.
The visitors came roaring back though. Lawrence Shankland squandered two great opportunities to level before setting up the equaliser with a smart, cushioned pass for Frankie Kent to net from close range.
Grant and Kye Rowles threatened and Kenneth Vargas was guilty of a terrible miss, chipping over with just goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov to beat.
Spittal's fine goal from 25 yards had Hearts heading for their first domestic win of the season, but Aberdeen had other ideas, taking their incredible run to 13 successive victories under manager Jimmy Thelin.
Seven of those have come in the league, matching Celtic at the top of the table, with those two meeting in Glasgow when the contest resumes after the international break.

Celtic defender Greg Taylor will miss Scotland's Nations League matches against Croatia and Portugal.
The left-back, 26, was absent for Sunday's win at Ross County after suffering a calf injury in the midweek Champions League defeat by Borussia Dortmund.
Taylor, capped 14 times, also withdrew from the squad for the opening defeats to Poland and Portugal in this campaign.
Head coach Steve Clarke was already without 10 players through injury and there are doubts over Angus Gunn.
The Norwich City goalkeeper was withdrawn at half-time against Hull City on Saturday after taking a heavy knock to the ribs.
Vice-captain John McGinn is among those unavailable, with Nicky Devlin, Liam Lindsay and Andy Irving all called up for the first time.
Scotland visit Zagreb on Saturday before hosting Portugal three days later.
Portugal lead Group A1 on six points, with Croatia and Poland both on three and Scotland yet to get off the mark.
Nearly 2,400 jobs at TGI Fridays' UK business have been saved after the American-themed restaurant chain secured a rescue deal.
Breal Capital and Calveton have agreed to buy the chain whose UK owner fell into administration last month.
However, more than 1,000 TGI Fridays UK staff will be made redundant as only 51 of the 87 restaurants are being bought under the deal.
The administrators, Teneo, said the other restaurants have been closed with immediate effect.
Sean "Diddy" Combs' mother has said she is "devastated and profoundly saddened" by the allegations levelled against her son, but that they are "lies".
The musician, known for hits like 1997's I'll Be Missing You, was arrested on charges of s ex trafficking and racketeering last month. He is currently being held in a Manhattan detention centre after being denied bail.
In a statement, Janice Small Combs defended her son, saying that although he had "made mistakes in the past, as we all have", he is "not the monster they have painted him to be".
"It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies," she wrote.
Netherlands legend Johan Neeskens has died at the age of 73, the Dutch football federation has confirmed.
The former midfielder was part of the Ajax and Netherlands teams credited with creating "total football" in the 1970s.
"With Johan Neeskens, the Dutch and international football world loses a legend," the KNVB federation said in a statement.
Neeskens was capped 49 times for the Dutch and was part of the teams that finished runners up at the 1974 and 1978 World Cups.
At Ajax he helped them win the European Cup three times and their domestic league twice.
Neeskens also spent five seasons at Spanish giants Barcelona, winning the Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners' Cup with them.
"His name is forever linked to European successes with clubs like Ajax and Barcelona and two World Cup finals for the Dutch national team," the KNVB added.
"With his characteristic tackles, sublime insights and iconic penalties, [he] will forever remain one of the most prominent and beloved players to ever play for our country."
After retiring as a player in 1991, Neeskens coached several clubs and was also an assistant coach with the Dutch national team from 1995 to 2000.
