Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become the next England manager.

The BBC has been told by two different sources that German Tuchel will become the third non-British permanent manager of the England men's team after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

England have been without a permanent manager since Gareth Southgate resigned following the Three Lions' Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain.

Lee Carsley was placed in charge on an interim basis "with a view to remaining in the position throughout autumn" while the Football Association assessed suitable options.

An approach was also made for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in the summer to see if had an interest in the role.

Tuchel is familiar with English football having managed Chelsea between January 2021 and September 2022.

The 51-year-old lifted the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup with the Blues before being sacked.

In June, the former Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager ruled himself out of the running to take over at Manchester United having met Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France.

Thomas Tuchel has been appointed England manager from 1 January 2025.

The 51-year-old German, who has signed an 18-month contract, becomes the third non-British permanent manager of the men's team after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Gareth Southgate resigned in July after England’s defeat by Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Lee Carsley, who was overseen four games since being appointed interim manager in August, will remain in charge for the Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland next month.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel, who left Bayern Munich at the end of last season, said: "I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team.

"I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.

"To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting."

Chief executive Mark Bullingham said the Football Association had appointed "one of the best coaches in the world".

He said: "Thomas and the team have a single-minded focus on giving us the best possible chance to win the World Cup in 2026."

Bahrain's national football team says it will not play a World Cup qualifying fixture in Indonesia, to "protect the safety" of the team.

The Gulf nation's players were subjected to online death threats from Indonesian fans following a controversial 2-2 draw between both countries' teams last week, according to the Bahrain Football Association (BFA).

The return fixture is scheduled to take place in Jakarta in March next year, but the BFA has asked Fifa to move the match to a venue outside Indonesia.

Neither the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) nor Fifa have publicly commented on Bahrain's request.

Controversy erupted last Thursday after Bahrain scored a 99th minute equaliser against Indonesia - a full three minutes after their players had expected the game to end.

The goal sparked wild protests from Indonesia's players and staff, one of whom had to be separated from officials and was sent off.

Indonesia's football association alleged that the referee, Oman's Ahmed Al Kaf, deliberately allowed the match to go on until Bahrain managed to score.

Just before the end of the standard 90 minutes, referees will typically indicate how much time they will add onto the match in order to make up for stoppages during the game.

In this case, Al Kaf indicated an extra six minutes. Bahrain scored after nine.

While controversial, the laws of the game state that indicated additional time is only a minimum, and referees are entitled to increase the amount if necessary.

"We are very disappointed with the refereeing," said PSSI executive member Arya Sinulingga.

"It seemed like they extended the added time just to allow Bahrain to score an equaliser."

Following the match, the PSSI says it submitted an official complaint to both Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Dane Scarlett scored in stoppage time to earn Oxford United a point against West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

Karlan Grant’s first-half strike opened the scoring for the visiting Baggies, the forward stunning the home support into silence with his effort from outside the box.

The U's pushed for an equaliser and forced Albion deeper in the later stages of the second half before Scarlett eventually headed home from a well-worked long throw routine.

Oxford’s impressive home run continues as they remain unbeaten at the Kassam Stadium this season after winning promotion last term.

West Brom would have gone top with a win but now sit in fifth after conceding late on.

King Charles and Queen Camilla joined a church congregation in Sydney for a Sunday service on the first day of engagements during their tour of Australia.

It is the King’s first visit to Australia since he became the country’s head of state in September 2022 and is the biggest trip the King has made since starting cancer treatment in February.

Their six-day visit to the Commonwealth country will involve meeting political and community leaders, and also celebrating the nation's people, culture, and heritage.

They were joined by members of St Thomas' Anglican Church in northern Sydney for the service, which was officiated by the city's archbishop, the Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel.

The royal couple met some well-wishers after a crowd of a couple of hundred people - many who had queued since early morning - were allowed into the church precinct to speak to the royal couple after the service.

For most it was a snatched hello and a chance to hand over flowers or take a photo.

Lyn Tarbuck attended with her husband Bob, a republican, and her two King Charles spaniels. She said of the monarchy: “I think it’s joined forces – if we have a problem in Australia they will help us out. We are a very big country but small in population so the more help we get the better.”

Roslyn Durie, who saw the Queen on her 1980 visit to Australia, said she was "so emotional" after receiving "a good firm handshake" from the King.

Sandra Hall and her husband Peter were also there to greet the royal couple. Ms Hall said: “I shook hands with Camilla first and welcomed her to Sydney, then Charles came along. I said 'look, it’s a beautiful sunny day' - and he said 'it’s always sunny in Sydney'.”
