You seem to have missed the bit about him previously winning the CL with unfashionable Porto, including disposing of Man Utd on the way!

Does that not fit into the profile you wish to portray!!

I wrote a similar but more detailed article on the old 606 on this point. Now don't get me wrong, i do obviously rate Mourinho as a manager but the general gist of my article was that his achievements should be taken into perspective and that he perhaps wasn't compatible with United.

Obviously the money has always been there for him, even at Porto where he spent far more than other Portuguese teams. He took over at Chelsea, spent hugely to achieve what he did but you've got to remember that it was one of those "transition" periods for United (i hate that phrase transition period) which made his task easier. Anyway, kudos to him.

He continued his success with Inter but the team he took over was hugely superior to the other teams. And he's done similarly at Real, inheriting a good team, spending hugely... but only won one league.

In terms of compatibility with United he doesn't always play great football and he hasn't got a great track record bringing through youngsters.

Still a great manager though.

Against maybe the greatest team of all !

Inter hadn't previously won Europe biggest club prize since 1965 - anything computing yet?

You've alluded to one of his key strengths, picking his jobs well, which is a skill all on it's own. He did win the CL with Porto and went on a 10 year undefeated streak at home spanning over 4 clubs. Two undeniably terrific accomplishments.

His tenure with Real spiralling out of control to an ultimately sour end is systematic of the very traits i saw, and liked, in AVB funnily enough. This was always gunna happen at some point with a Jose team (could've easily been us had he not walked away), both cross a fine line between focussed inspiration and intense alienation

He has royally screwed Madrid over this season, they are obviously out of the title race and I cannot see them beating United in the CL. They will be 18 points behind Barca after tomorrow and it is only January.

Brilliant short term manager but clearly a terrible long term one.

TCP but Real only won the league because they beat the smaller teams more than Barca. Never did he truly manage to 'get one over' Barca.

I think his standout achievements are winning the CL with Porto and Inter and his league title with Real (simply because of the way they smashed so many records).

Ozil I know but Barca's record against Madrid under Mourinho is very one sided.

Also Barca gave up the title fairly on in the season if I remember correctly. They were 8 points behind before the new year.

People dont rate his time at Chelsea as a great achievement, why? (apart from the obvious bias but i hope even the average fan is capable of critical thought) he came to a new very competitive league with an invincible Arsenal side established, and that wiley old fox Ferguson and completely dominated the league. Spending a lot of money is the usual reason the naysayers give but as shown with City it usually takes around 3 seasons to truly establish oneself as a title contender and Jose did it almost immediately. Also he was undefeated at home in the entire time at Chelsea. He didnt lose his home record until at Madrid at least recognise that as one of greatest managerial achievements of all time. He also holds the points record in the PL

I applaud polemic writing thats done for a good reason but i suspect its your club allegiances that prompt you to hold this opinion which is disappointing

TCP they did but it was a hollow victory as Barca pretty much gave up the league before the midway point of the season. On the other hand Jose pretty much gave it his absolute all. The Spanish media were saying similar things.
