I had the idea first

16 teams and 18 below is a manageable number for our population size. The current proposals are all about compromise with the spl and sfl, the spl clubs aint willing to give up their top spaces unfortunately.

Here is how I would work a top division of 14.

Everybody plays each other twice and after 26 games the league splits into a 6/8 competition. the top 6 then all have their points halved and if you have an uneven number resulting in you having half point then that is the first differential used if two teams finish on the same number of points, thereafter you use goal difference etc.

From the bottom 8 the bottom two are relegated. The third bottom team enters playoffs with the teams who finish 3rd, 4th and 5th of the division below. 3rd bottom plays 5th over two legs and 3rd plays 4th over two legs. the two winners play off in a one off final.

Much better than 8/8/8

Is the new league not being pushed through because of the sponsorship deals ending this season?

On that basis my leagues would be 14/18/10.

Obviously he won't be proposing this for next season but the season after?

As I said above that would be the right thing to do, as Chuman says though it seems to be everybody else who is in a rush to change it

Its all a bit of a clusterfvck unfortunately.

We have too many teams and reconstruction should look to reduce the number of clubs playing in our professional set up.

16/18 two top flights would lose 8 clubs.

Two leagues of 16 and bin the rest?

================================

Probably the only real way of sorting out this mess!

Zico that would be an even better result in my book.

Though I like the idea of 16-18 with an 18 acting like the championship model down south.

Would also allow the top flight to become 18 if clubs started to out grow the second teir meaning we could lowe the split all together in the premier league.

I ain't to sure about this ideas either to be honest although it is better than the other one.

Key point is not rushing through for this season which should be obvious for everyone.

At least green can no longer be accused of only being negative and not offering any solution.

Why not just have one big league? Everyone plays each other twice over two years

It also doesnt mean that relegation/promotion to a regional set up would be out of the question.

We need to limit the number of club's we have to professional full time only the majority of clubs in Scotland are part time this isnt good enough.

So a complete cluster fewk of an idea is a positive.Right lets have 14-14-14 league and then split it in half with all the teams dancing around the maypole and slapping each other with wooden poles ,the team left standing can jump up and down with bells on their socks.Absolute garbage, this is another little Chuckles mind game.He should just shut up.

Yes tommy. That's right...shout it down because Green came up with it

I totally agree.
We need the wee diddy teams to play in REGIONAL leagues and have a play off of their champions in the last two weeks of the season - maybe at Hampden and Murrayfield. Then the wee diddy champions can be promoted to the Big boys leagues.

I think we should be put in charge of all this - we could have it sorted out in a Saturday session in the pub.

Zico

It might sound harsh but im just taking a realistic stance on this subject. No room for sentiment when the future of our game hangs in the balance.

PB I ain't shouting it down because it's from Big'ands the Clown Of Yawkshaw-its a totally inept and unworkable idea, and if it was adopted would make Scottish football an even bigger joke.

posted on 14/1/13

tommyb, in what way is it unworkable and inept?

If you read the posts above there is an outline as to how it would work and why it is much better than the 12/12 splitting into 8/8/8.

posted on 14/1/13

Tommy
Why is it worse than the SPLs plan?

posted on 14/1/13

Its workable in a similar mode that the 8/8/8 might work but the idea of some clubs playing more games than others doesnt sit well with me.
