Not sure I understand the Chambers deal, from the club’s side. Arsenal had an option to extend his contract by a year, which would have at least increased his market value. Versatile player, professional attitude. Generally played well under Arteta & is more reliable than Cedric

Seriously, WTF is going on?

Auba situation seems like a harsh one to judge him on. In the space of a year he got covid, malaria, mum got seriously sick etc. Just happened to coincide with our team being poor and not supporting him well and generally getting the wrong side of 30.

At the time it didn't seem like we'd be able to get the same qualities for anywhere near the cost of a replacement.

Plus his policy moving forward seems to be indicating he's learnt from that incident.

I'd be very surprised if that was the thing to have them questioning Arteta
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't understand why Auba has been banished from the squad. If there is more to it and Auba has been breaking all sorts of rules then fair enough but it's crazy how he has gone from being the first name on the team sheet to now us wanting to sell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If it was something stupid (i.e Titlerish), then I'm sure auba would've spoken up about it by now. His brother is very vocal on the old social media too.

I mean he even got sent home from Gabon for breaking a bunch of rules, despite being the captain. We know he broke enough rules to lose the captaincy here. Not too much of a stretch to imagine why he would be frozen out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rumours are that he was constantly breaking ruler set by Arteta and as the captain, its not on. Add that to the fact that he has been sheet for a very long time, I guess it would make sence to a certain degree

This is just PR. As I said, it's WC year. Not many players will want to sit on the bench. One of the most used if not the most used player right now. He is happy in Marseille
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He said exactly the same thing about Nice last year, but he didn't end up staying there.

Whatever he's actually thinking it's PR but it doesn't give anything away as to which way he might be leaning.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone, including him thought he'd be back after the Nice loan and join the team for preseason.

As someone mentioned above he has had malaria along with other issues so onfield he's simply not the same player he was. Whether he can ever regain a top level is probably unknown.

The off-field stuff becomes a massive problem when players aren't producing on field and it's not great at the best of times especially when the manager is wanting ultimate levels of respect from his squad.

All that said, the wages are eye-wateringly high for someone that age regardless. It was always a gamble and if we're not financially that well off then the people who pushed that decision might be in trouble

I know castor. his brother is the exact kind of idiot to have a go at the club for something he doesn't agree with. Both their silences are quite telling imo.

Isn't Aubas base wage 250k p/w? Still a massive amount but I don't know why the papers keep saying 350k. It's not like he's been hitting many bonuses over the last year or so.

Marseille fans are lunatics. He could easily just be trying to placate them.

I don't know though, we'll just have to wait and see.

That's a fair point, I don't know whether there is any truly accepted figure. The media may well add a signing on fee then spread that on top of the base while other sources wouldn't include the signing on fee. Plus like you said there's bonuses too and frankly the true figure maybe be completely different to anything the media knows of.

Regardless I believe it is accepted that he's our highest paid player and is currently banished from the squad in disgrace so no one is looking good

Looking at our wages Smith-Rowe and Saka will likely get large contracts soon, it appears they're currently two of our lowest earners.

Lacazette, Pepe, Xhaka and Leno are on high wages and either will be leaving or should be sold, so hopefully we'll ship out those guys and free things up (obviously easier said than done sometimes)

‘I don’t understand why Auba has been banished from the squad’

- Castor

‘Rumours are that he was constantly breaking ruler set by Arteta and as the captain, its not on’

- (also) Castor

You know man, for someone who constantly moans about every player who plays for us, fack do you moan even more when we sell them or loan them out.

It’s genuinely bizarre behaviour.

posted on 27/1/22

Still, I’m sure Calum would be genuinely moved to read the outpouring of grief being posted here.

Just a shame he’s left us without ever knowing how much he was loved.

Kiss those nearest and dearest to you before you go to sleep tonight, lads.

Won't be surprised if Arteta brings in more defensive players.

Guy has spent a fortune on the defence with zero focus on attack

As I keep saying to this ‘Arteta only signs defenders’ comment, we’re ESR and Saka DMs or CBs instead of creative attackers, Arteta and Edu would’ve had to have spent money higher up the pitch.

The reason they haven’t done imo is because of the luxury of having ready made academy players admirably filling two of those positions already.

And that’s without even mentioning Martinelli.

And we all know how much Arteta loves him!

Who is talking about contracts to existing players

It's well documented that Arteta is a defensive manager. Most of his signings have been defensive.

Willian was a free and Odegaard

Ramsdale
Gabriel
Mari
Cedric
Partey
Tomi
