The set up is too defensive. 3 CDM's does not work. Nwaneri has to start against Shakhtar.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Quite sure that was Arteta's plan anyway to rest some players.

I think we need to rest Rice and play Partey/Merino. Merino needs games for match fitness, and I doubt Partey plays the entire season as a starter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think the only reason Partey is starting matches is due to injuries to others.

Having said that, when everyone is fit (LOL) we need to keep him involved.

All the away matches will be a tough watch. We will set up with a defensive block and concentrate more on not conceding than actually defending

Yes but against better opposition we play a very controlled and defensive style of game. It's the kind of style where if you concede the first goal, you won't be able to get back into the game

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

Yeah. Not sure why people are ignoring our record over the last couple of years.

You almost have to park yesterday's game. I think we would have won by one or two if hadn't gone down to 10 men.

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

We conceded the first goal at City, and almost won that game.

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

Are we expecting any of our injured players back in time for the Shakhtar match?

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

I doubt we need to rush them back for Shakhtar. I hope Saka will be back for Liverpool. Maybe Timber as well.

Yes but more often than not, it's very difficult to go from all our defence to the chase a game.

Chelsea, Newcastle and inter are all games where we will defend deep in numbers and create at best 1-2 openings

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

Why will we defend deep against Newcastle or Chelsea? We didn't last season.

True, however you’d ideally want to have them available for Tuesday to give them 15-20 minutes run out.

Hopefully not because we ‘need’ them though!

No we didn't. Havertz played in midfield against Newcastle and Chelsea was all out attack come back win.

Arsenal possession 57% vs Chelsea
Arsenal possession 60% vs Newcastle

Stop making stuff up.

Depends on length they have been out and type of player tbh.

Saka hasn't been out too long and Timber is plug and play type player. Look at how well he did after being out for almost a season.

We created absolutely nothing v Newcastle

Chelsea we also created absolutely nothing until the pass back to rice and trossard game.

When we play away from home against better teams, we don't open up and play in a defensive mannor. It's so obvious now

Very sad news about Chris Hoy 🫡

Newcastle vs Arsenal
9 shots 14
40% possession 60%
0 Corners 11

It was Newcastle who played counter-attack and got away with a goal that should have been disallowed.

Show me all the stats you want, we created no real chance in that game.

I'm fine with us being defensive and resolute away at Etihad and and Anfield but we have to beat one of Newcastle and Chelsea as we have dropped too many point already and by doing that, we have to show more in attack

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

Chelsea vs Arsenal
11 shots 13
43% possession 57%
2 corners 7

Similarly, Chelsea fed off our mistakes and we had a nice comeback draw.

Chelsea outplayed us in that game. Seriously what game did you watch. Our MF got overran and we got a late flurry in the last 10 mins

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

I can give you our stats in the final third as well. But the corners are a good indication to where the majority of the game was played.

The problem was that we are not clinical as a team. And although Havertz has helped in that we need more from Martinelli or whoever plays on the left.

Big difference between corners and clear goal scoring chances and in both games, bar the two goals v chelsea, we created absolutely nothing

I'm just saying we are designed to defend rather than attack. It's been clear for the last few months.

As a team, we don't create much in games. The ploy always, especially away, is to nick a goal and then be defensive resolute.
