Personally wouldn't have taken anyone off. By the commentators comments the team was struggling to get back into shape, so I guess maybe Arteta had to act but I think the personnel we had starting could have easily gone to a strong formation after the red.

Fair but I think Trossard struggles centrally

He struggles wide too.

Today was one of the worst Trossy performances for Arsenal.

I think he does more in 20 mins than he does when he starts so he's kinda boxing himself into that role

slightly unfair on him. He has given us a lot since he joined. The loss of Odegaard and Saka doesn't help him or the team. Starting 3 CDM's and a deep forward doesn;t also help him

The lack of CAM and RW cover will come back to bite us. We were lucky last season that Ode and Saka were fit for 95% of the games. Sterling was never the answer and Nwaneri is still raw.

ESR, Nelson and Eddie had to leave but not bringing in proper replacements was a naive decision.

I think Ethan is good enough to slot in for Saka. Sterling is so past it, the whole point of him should be as an impact sub. No way should Sterling ever be allowed to be ahead of Ethan.
Just got the same feeling as last season, where around Dec we dropped too many easy games, and already in 8 games, all 7 points could’ve easy have been avoided given the opponent/self inflicted circumstances

I really like Trossy but his performance yesterday was piiiiisss poor. The whole time he didnt get a sniff against his opponent. Losing possession and hadnt any impact in the game. Should have subbed way earlier.

Ethan is a more direct replacement for Odegaard. His natural instinct is to drift into the middle, as you could see in his cameo. Merino is not someone who can replace Odegaard.

Trossard is too lightweight to play midfield in the Premier League. He gives the ball away constantly when pressed. This is the same problem Brighton had and why they sold him. They didn't know where to play him. He is best off the bench or in a no.10 role.

Martinelli running power is very important to Arsenal, but his finishing is still not of the standard needed for title challengers. Its obvious why Arsenal chased Nico Williams all summer. The mistake was not having an alternative. Frankly should have kept ESR until they had one.

Pointless singling out Trossard. Who was actually good yesterday? Gabriel and Rice only ones who played at a respectable level, maybe Havertz too for his off the ball work. It’s difficult for me to have a go at our attacking players when you look at how Arteta sets them up tactically but they have to take these golden chances when handed to them.

Sterling worked space for a shot on his left foot which should have been a goal but decided to move it back to his right for some reason. And Marti’s miss basically cost us the game as they scored 2 mins later.

We have missed golden chances to score in every single game this season and it’s cost us in 3 games already. And the problem is without Saka and Ode we don’t create many chances which means there is even more pressure to score on players who are probably lacking confidence in front of goal.

Think Partey was okay.

Trossard cost us 2 points against Man City and was at fault for the red card as much as Saliba. He then disappeared for the rest of the time he was on the pitch, as he often does when playing in midfield.

But it is fair to say we were not balanced in midfield, playing Partey/Rice/Merino. Those 3 cost a combined £180m and frankly should have held their own even against 10 men. Partey looked the best one of the three which isn't saying much.

I put the red card pretty much all on Saliba. It was a bad pass from Trossard but Saliba should have known he didn’t have to make that foul. Raya put us in far worse positions with a couple of bad passes but gets away with it because it didn’t lead to our other players getting themselves sent off.

posted 5 days, 6 hours ago

Both Bats. The Saliba red was on Trossard and Saliba. Why Trossy played that ball back or was it a poor touch? Think Saliba was suprised by that ball.

The set up is too defensive. 3 CDM's does not work. Nwaneri has to start against Shakhtar.

posted 5 days, 6 hours ago

3 CDM's might work if we have pace on the wings. Not with Trossard on the wing and Havertz dropping deep.

After Liverpool, 7 of our next 8 games are away from home. How has that happened…

posted 5 days, 5 hours ago

7 of those games are in November which is traditionally our month of death

I think we forget how young Saliba is, and he is going to make immature mistakes. I am convinced he would not have made yesterday's error if it weren't for mixed training messages from the French International setup. A lot of coaches believe it's important to intervene early when defending, compared to his time at Arsenal, where I believe we teach defenders not to commit till the player is ready to take a shot. It's something Gabriel has improved a lot. He was constantly diving in early and in fact has been sent off for that.

But it is abt risk with passing and believe it or not Raya's passing mistakes are less risky because defenders are are closer to rescue. Passing back when the entire team is pushed up is schoolboy stuff. You don't do it because you take all the players out from recovering.

Seriously?

I guess there are the two CL games, and the Preston game. What are the rest of the fixtures, Bats?

Quite sure that was Arteta's plan anyway to rest some players.

I think we need to rest Rice and play Partey/Merino. Merino needs games for match fitness, and I doubt Partey plays the entire season as a starter.
