And it tells the player that we're not fully sold on him either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sesko is 21 and Leipzig are asking for what £60m+? I wouldn't be scared of selection when my only competition is Havertz. I bet Osimhen would jump at it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying that he'd be worried about Havertz, I'm saying that when you're trying to lure a player to the club you have to convince them, make them feel wanted.
A loan with an option wouldn't make me feel particularly wanted if I was the player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raya agreed to it?

If I were Sesko I would want guarantee of a permanent deal. An option would have too many risks.

Option. I believe, although some initially reported it differently. We paid a loan fee.
posted 7 hours, 25 minutes ago
Fair enough, I still think the circumstances are different given Raya was our clear choice and we had links to him already.
A lot more uncertainty with Sesko.
posted 7 hours, 25 minutes ago
Option also allows the player to negotiate a bigger wage if they over perform.
posted 7 hours, 24 minutes ago
Far less risky move for Raya though. He already had strong links in the Arsenal coaching staff, didn't have to move house never mind starting in a new country, PL proven and it was nailed on we would take the option.
Sesko, moving half way through the season, moving country and putting his reputation on the line is far bigger. If it doesn't work out immediately it could have a big impact on his career. A lot of players take a bit of time to settle and Sesko simply wouldn't have that. Ramps up the pressure on him as well, if he doesn't get off to a flying start he is already thinking he will be shipped back.

It could be a loan with an obligation to buy. Asking for a loan with an option would be dumb.
posted 7 hours, 22 minutes ago
Sure, there are risks both ways for the player. And so he might push for a permanent deal as well. But it's not an insult.
posted 7 hours, 18 minutes ago
Matter of opinion I guess. If I was RB I'd be insulted, if I was Sesko I might not be insulted but I'd certainly be somewhat skeptical about the intentions of the club.
posted 7 hours, 16 minutes ago
I'd imagine they would laugh at it or put in a massive loan fee that would make the option almost impossible not to take.
posted 7 hours, 14 minutes ago
What if Sesko is not sure of the move for other reasons? Settling in etc. We really don't know what the conversation was between Sesko and Arteta last season. The problem for Sesko is that if he is unsure it might be now or never. Maybe Arteta wanted to give him an out if he didn't like it on loan? I can't believe Arteta won't move onto someone else now if Sesko still has doubts.
posted 7 hours, 13 minutes ago
If it's now or never then an option makes even less sense. Either buy him or don't.

Just go and get Rashford
posted 7 hours, 11 minutes ago
Why? I don't understand that. Option means Sesko can say no.

And so give up his opportunity to move to a big club? Obviously he didn't say no, or why would Arteta go back for him? All I am saying is that loan + option can be for all sorts of reasons. Especially for a 21-year-old in high demand.

Sesko rumours are bs
posted 7 hours, 2 minutes ago
Fair enough. I think if there was any truth in it it would be an incredibly stupid way to sour the negotiations from the start, personally.

Maybe they are. I am just happy that Arsenal linked to strikers. Suggests they are back in the market for one.

I just hope the links aren't being put out by club mouthpieces just to appease the fans. I suspect that was why the Zubi news broke.
