because if he retires it looks like he is not committed. This way he knows he is too bad to get picked but can act like he still cares and play the victim. Roy called his bluff this time because he knows he would pull out and get exposed.

Its really poor wumming 8bit. I expect better.
Actually I cant count, it was 11 days.
anyone bother to read the full quotes from Roy before criticising Rio??
"I was pleased that Rio called and asked to meet with me," Hodgson added. "It was important to hear from him personally about the way he must manage his body between games.
"This is not to say he cannot play back-to-back games - he can and has proven so. He's out this time due to particular pre-planned details already in place for his programme.
"I must place on record how I was impressed with his commitment to playing for England and I look forward to hopefully selecting him for squads in the future."
Statman, if he was that bothered about playing for England again he would jump at the chance of potentially playing against Montenegro. I just don't see how you can turn down a chance to play for your country at any international sport, probably looking at it as a patriotic view here though.
Roy has to be polite to the United controlled media of course.
if United control the media, why does he have to be polite to them ?
If Roy disses Rio he will be out of a job by the next morning
Why would he want to play for England anyway, they are crap and he would have to deal with the likes of downing henderson and Milner infront of him
England first XI is better than United's

I agree in principle. However, we all know that Rio has injury problems that must be managed carefully. SAF has openly spoken about it. Rio has just played the full 90 mins of our last 3 games and I am sure that the medical staff had the international break down as an opportunity for Rio to recover. Had Roy considered the fact that Rio can only play a certain number of games, he should have given him and SAF the heads up that he was considering selecting him. Then SAF might possibly have rested him in one of the games, meaning that Rio did not need the international break to recover and so could play.
Rather than criticising Rio, people should instead be looking at Roy and his poor planning. I mean, we all know that Rio's body is a wreck.
well maybe the opportunity to represent your country again at the highest level of probably the most popular sports in the world...
And i think you will find downing and henderson were not picked for the squad so that would be quite difficult for them to be in front of him
I'm glad he's making himself available
he's better than the others we've been using by a distance
I get that Statman, i just see it be too appealing an opportunity to turn up, but i do understand the 3 games in 9 days for a 34 year old is hard going. And i did state above that Roy and his team should have done some more research into Rio's regime
I for one am very glad he will be fresh to face Chelsea in the cup replay.
Why fans of other clubs have got their knickers in a twist over this I have no idea. Its not like there arent players pulling out at every single international break.

that just have to be there as a joke.
If Roy disses Rio, he will be sacked, and rightly so.
He must know by now that anyone who plays for United is bigger than him when it comes to the England team. If he doesn't know this, then he shouldn't be the manager. (I wish he wasn't).

-----------------
More dross
If he retired because of his inability to give it 100%, that would not mean he is not commited. It would mean he simply retired gracefully as he does not feel he's up to it anymore
