Hi Boys (and Girls now Kitty is here)
Sorry had to pop out for a while but back now. Good to see we can all have a bit of a reminisce about the good old days.
Wednesday and Chelsea have had some great encounters in the past
Very true Kitty, the 4-4 one in particular was an epic encounter.
i remember it very well. Those were the days when cup replays happened on the Wednesday after the original game. No waiting around for 10 days.
Typical of us though - 3 nil up and drawing 4-4. Lost in the second replay too
Yeah it was tense though, I remember when Mickey Thomas (I think) got the winner. It could have gone either way. Wednesday were a good side then under Howard Wilkinson.
We had a better team in 91 on the way to the League Cup final, and I think, that was the last time I visited Stamford Bridge. Well overdue a visit
Brum, as you'll remember from our last drink. I don't normally do Club colours for routine games. In the infiltration days of the Seventies a lot of supporters didn't wear colours. I would feel uncomfortable turning up at games in the full kit.
You're retro '60's shirt is a nice touch, but for me I'd do the old 69-70 one if I dressed up. We must have that beer soon fella.
Kitty, I well remember the '91 game at the Bridge. I think we lost 0-2 and were well beaten. I remember being envious of you guys and wondering if we'll ever win anything again in my lifetime. It's funny how things turn out.
Being a girl at matches was pretty unusual back then, but I was never afraid even when with my short hair I was mistaken for a fella . . . was even threatened once in the programme shop at Hillsborough. The guy slunk off when he was informed of his "faux pas".
That was the last time we won anything Chelsea. We pummelled you home and away in the semis. It was the year we had all the soft toy throwing. Did you win anything since then . . .
Only the fashion stakes Kitty (apart from the Deerstalker boys)
I'd like to have see you then . . . I bet you were the bees knees, as was I . . .
Do you think you've changed as a football fan Chelsea? Back in the day, Chelsea and Wednesday could have been seen as being on a level-ish par but our clubs paths have gone in such different directions. As a fan of a Premiership club with a billionaire owner, do you expect to always win stuff now?
No, they were so crap for so long that I still expect them to feck things up just like the Graham Wilkins, Trevor Aylott's etc. of this world used to. The nouveau Chelsea fans probably do expect it but us Old 'Un's still remember just how bad things got.
That's good to know. I'm so far detached from the Premiership scene, you forget that the veteran fans are just like me. The younger element don't know what real football used to be like. It makes us fans of teams in lower leagues laugh to hear fans moaning that they've not won anything in 7/8 years.
I think I'll stop now. There are people on this forum who think I'm a lot younger. Don't want to give too much away. Been good as always Chelsea. Goodnight.
Kitty been great chatting to you but I've got work tomorrow so I'd better get me old nut down. Talk again tomorrow if you are about.
I'm on here, either the record thread, or the Red Devils Tavern most nights. Very rarely on the Wednesday board, they are mostly old gits.
Css1969,great article mate .funny how the deer stalker s came into the convo, when your lot had it with Cardiff the other season on the kings road a couple of your well known faces had berets on.the soul crew must have thought you'd teamed up with psg
That's a great read fella.
It's all a bit vanilla nowadays really, although navy bodywarmer with grey long-sleeved top underneath seems to be on every other youngster nowadays.
The Cantona Collar... inspired a whole generation of kids to play football with their collar up (or to pull it up and rotate slowly when they scored). #ICON
I went from a skinhead to a casual in the 80s
Loved all the designer clothes that went with the casual look
Everything from
Pringle
Burberry
sergio tacchini
Laccost
etc etc
Ccs do you remember a few of the lads wearing Deerstalkers with Pringles back in the late 80's? That just used to make me plss myself laughing.
My mate wore his deer stalker everywhere and all the Chelsea fans in our local used tocall him " Watson"
