PROBABLYBut given the mess created by Mr Callaghan or at least added to by.The tidy up took much longer

Agreed.

However she was in power she made the wrong choices at the wrong time and she was responsible for destroying families and communities.

That is why she deserves most of the blame. imo

==

well ok but from what I see the country was a financial basket case before she came to power

Super I did see your points, but they weren't worth responding to.

As for Rued less of the insults.
I did read what you said. I think you need to proof read some of your posts.

Of course I've been out of work for a period of time. Over a year before.

Regarding a lack of union power my Dad works at a big industrial company and was in an accident 2 years ago. He was genuinely injured physically and mentally. He was bullied by the company from day one who only cared about covering themselves and contributed to greater physical and emotion stress to my old man. The unions in the place have little or no power.

As I said they only care for profits and soon we will be back in the Victorian times. Probably with barcodes on us from birth so we can make the kants some money.

she made the REQUIRED choices at the REQUIRED times to turn this country around, yes people suffered but people were suffering prior to her coming in!

But hey rubbish piled up in the streets, unable to bury the dead and ONLY 29million working days due to strike, AYE SHE MADE THE WRONG DECISIONS

Rued

I think we can all agree it would have been difficult for any politician at the time but the way she went about her decisions leaves a sour taste.

Hate folk that say "aye you jocks are whinging away, ye still voted for her in didn't ye's".....well actually we didn't.

In 1979, out of the 71 MPs elected from Scotland, only 22 were Tories, less than a third.

By 1987, there were 72 constituencies in Scotland, and the number of Tory MPs in Scotland was down to 10, meaning 87% of Scotland had voted against Thatcher and her party.

Thatcher hated Europe and so do many Tories becasue they don't think you can have generic policies and governance across so many different countries, and don't want power moving from London to Brussels.....yet Thatcher and these same people cant see the same thing staring them in the face when it came to the different countries and communities throughout the UK....with almost the whole of Scotland ditching Thatcherism, voting to say as much yet still being governed by the cow!!

how somehow folk STILL wonder why we have such a problem with Westminster and wanted our own parliament is beyond me

Pay more work less thats the route that success is driven from unions

Which is shocking but then had the previous government had the baws to take them on (see Barbara Castle) then perhaps it would never have got to that.

Plenty of other parts of the UK could make the same statement.

St3vie - using this logic although Salmond has a majority share of the seats he DID NOT receive a majority share of the vote!

Thatcher would be the person I dislike most in my lifetime. To me her handling of the Miners, Northern Ireland and the Poll Tax was disgusting and demonstrated no regard for human decency. Add to this, her relationships with extreme right wing dictatorships and her manipulation of the Falklands leave her with no credibility. A horrible woman!

Having said that I disagree with street parties and songs to 'celebrate' her death - that's just sick!

It's not a cop out I covered the steel works issue and Japan has a current lack of economic investment right now. Hence it's decline compared to others. Japan is now what Thatcher would love. A subservient workforce who only work for the corps.

I've explained all my points in great detail Super you just disagree with my points.

I'm all for making money myself. it's just I'm all for hepling others who can't help themselves. Not everyone can leave school as Einstein or have common sense or even desire to work for themsleves.

Castle,

I think we actually think along the same lines. As I said being unemployed is a horrible position to be in especially when you have family and financial commitments. In fact I would go as far to say that it proved the final straw for our marriage.

Of course I am all for workers rights.

You dont think People should be paid more Ally? A degree will only get you so far and there arent enough 100k a year jobs to go round. Minimum wage, and queuing up for a tin of peaches the way to go because it keeps us competitive?

The way the Torries want it is the way of the sweat shop. They want to drill it into our heads that they cant compete with other countries because of our outrageous demands of enough food and a warm house. Eventually you will be working for £6.50 a week as it keeps us competitive in the free trade market. Stiff upper lips and that eh chaps?
It is for all these reasons I shall be voting yes. I think Salmond is another buffoon but I would rather we fooked it up ourselves than be a toffy torries play thing.

Duke if you think the Falklands war and the way it was hanlded was about 'doing the right thing' then you're very naive. No war no second term!

What was the alternative?

Let Argentina just walk in and take it.

Seriously

It did get her another term without doubt but then should we just let other countries walk all over us?

She did the right thing IMO.

So how do you resolve the Japanese under investment? The country has no money! What would they invest in if they did?

Regarding the steel I didnt see your response as if you overproduce you debase the market, if you debase the market you cant sell at a profit, if you cant make a profit you can pay for the upgraded facilities, if you cant pay for the upgraded facilities then you close and all you have done is reinvest to delay closure!

Producing steel isnt a business model, selling steel at a profit is a business model

How did we come about said Island Duke? Did god pop down and say " By the way Mags, I got pashed one night and accidently left the other bit of England in the right next to Argentina so they might mistakingly lay claim to it." I take it the recent comeback of the islands that no cant has spoken of since the war is another Torrie ploy to get rubber lips in for a second term? And will it be the right thing to do? Kill people who have more of a claim on the Island than we do?
