I think Cleverley can be a really good player for us, just want to see him doing more of the quick intricate passing he came into the team with, rather than trying to bend it like Beckham

I think Clev is more suited to European football in some ways. He's never going to boss a physical PL midfield imo but his energy and passing tempo is very useful in the CL.
If Madrid had taken their chances the fixture would have been lost in Madrid itself.
Mourinho made the right changes. Ferguson didn't. Instead he started those stupid gestures towards the crowd.
As I have always said "Crowd doesn't win u games, players do"

have you?
Looking back at the game did the red card seem just as ridiculous ????
did you say it even when you were wayne and robin?

you don't half talk some dung... DDG made 2 or 3 world class saves it's true, but i don't think we rode our luck to stay in it..... RVP had chances towards the end... 1 bad miss, 1 good save
Well said OP!
I've spent the past part of 3 months trying to get people to remember how well we played over those 2 legs and Cleverley was excellent in that second leg.
Yep, filthy decision. Diego Alves should have seen red first for his right hook on Vidic... Had to turn it off before Roy Keane started chatting with Adrian Chiles again
In the first leg RVP had 2 great chances, so did Giggs and so did Welbeck.
Considering it was an away leg at one of the best sides in the world we did very well.
I can't believe Wayne and Robin is so negative. Oh wait, yes I can.

Something that has been entirely forgotten. Varane should have seen red in the first game without a doubt.
He was the last man.
Overall I do believe the refereeing actually cost us. Not SAF or Maureen's substitutions.
Doubt very much whether we would have beaten Dortmund though
Shouldn't have been a red, but why throw a kick was like that it was like de jong on the world cp. Nanis got a daft temper
throw a kick????, he was trying to control the damn ball, he didnt even know arbeloa was there, de jong knew exactly where alonso was and did him good and proper
The standard of Refereeing over both ties was horrendous for and against both teams, Varane should have been sent off whilst Nani shouldn't, Reals first half goal at OT should have stood and Rafael should have been sent off second half for a handball which stopped a potential goal. Really shoddy work from the officials in such a huge game as well.
I still think SAF not reacting to the red had a huge impact on the tie though, those 20 minutes between Nani's red and Ronny's goal was where the tie was won. Carrick had a stormer as well in both games but he can only do against Norwich and Fulham at home when we're 4-0 up............................apparently
It will be interesting to see how Moyes does in the CL, he's got no experience of the group stages but he could take it by storm with United, the other managerial changes ensure a brilliant season is on the horizon.
Mourinho bought Modric right after the card and it changed the game.
Our manager wasted precious time trying to encourage the crowd instead of bringing in substitutions or changing tactics.
Don't forget that Madrid needed 2 goals to win the tie at that moment.
Yes we played well but the truth is this was not a particularly great Real side, one that had lost over a 1/4 of their away games in the league this season.
We missed some big chances but so too did Real. The Nani decision was massive and had it been given correctly (a yellow) then I would say we probably would have been favourites to go through. $hit happens, some things go for you and some things don't, overall we were not that great, just watch Dortmund's first leg with Real to see what an actual great European display is, ours was nowhere near it and hasn't been at any point this past season.
It's easy to say SAF wasted time encouraging the crowd.
Whose to say they wouldn't have gone on to win with Nani still on the pitch. They were more and more in the game and IMO there were signs of us fading. Anyhow we were very unlucky and I blame the ref !!
One of Jose's strengths are his subs and tactical changes throughout a game. He reacted quicker to the Nani red card and took full advantage. Whether the red card was right or wrong you still have to play on and Jose was excellent at reacting to the situation while Ferguson as has been the case over the past few seasons was cautious and waited before making a change and was punished for that mistake.

You are so bloody negative. You forget that this was a Real Madrid side that beat Barca twice either side of the second leg and one that had just beaten Valencia 5-0.
Yeah, Dortmund's first leg was a great performance but Dortmund currently have a better team. We had a number of novices in Europe playing (Welbeck, Cleverley, Jones) with some players in their first season with United (Kagawa, RVP).
You say it wasn't a great Real side but actually they were very good at home (a place where we could very easily have won). At home they beat Dortmund, Galatasaray, City and Ajax. We went there and could easily have won.
I'm not trying to say that we were anywhere near ready to conquer europe last season but over those two games against Madrid we played very well and just because it was a different style to Dortmund doesn't mean it wasn't a great tactical performance.
Ferguson as has been the case over the past few seasons was cautious and waited before making a change

What annoyed me is the amount of time he spent arguing with the officials.
