4th, I know he isnt an unknown celeb. I know who he is but all this stuff hes doing, interviews on behalf of gazza, donations for him, is he honestly that close to gazza?
Yeah just cast Gazza aside
Do one
Even Jack Wilshere who I hate contributed to Gazza's stint in rehab, how do we know what help he's had since then?
Alcoholism is a disease
Addiction to legal and PRESCRIBED painkillers is a disease.
Cancer is a disease - People with lung cancer get sympathy, why shouldn't alcoholics?
I agree that the only two probably outcomes in Gazza's case are either death or getting sectioned. Let's hope someone has the courage to the latter.

He does need help, sadly he just does not accept the help, but you can't give up on someone
Thats the easy way out

Mr C
Irani was a professional cricketer for England and part of a radio show which pulls on over 2.7m per day. He isn't an unknown celeb.
---------------
cheers. Saved me the trouble
Irani's a decent sort who went out of his way to help a friend. In fact, Irani was one of the main instigaters of getting the help for him
So let's berate him for it shall we?
Gazza's mind must be in an utterly terrible place to do this to himself.

The 'help' he gets is always temporary though isn't it? Getting him 'clean' for weeks/months at a time....but it's never a solution. More of a stop gap. All it takes is ONE DRINK and that's all facked again.
If you get him sectioned then he is under constant supervision and the underlying mental issues can be addressed. It's a physical and mental dependence stemming from psychological issues, so it would make sense to try to address them properly rather than just rehab after rehab.
I fail to see how "he's had enough chances" is some sort of justification. He's not a serial convict who's been in and out of prison for committing numerous crimes. He has an addiction he can't give up purely through willpower. He needs long-term medical help and sectioning him is the only way

I believe he is
Irani actually accompanied him on part of the journey to the US if I remember right. He was one of the ones that instigated the call for help so he is not jumping on any band wagon
Unfortunately for Gazza, he needs 24 hour, week in week out supervision, otherwise he will simply return to drink. If he doesnt get this type of help, he will be dead in the next 24 to 36 months...
On top of that, he needs to want to stop, until then, unfortunately its fruitless...

Thudd, I know, we shoudnt cast anyone aside.. how should he get help now though.. it comes to a point then where he's only getting this help now because of who he is. All these donations, media attention, flights out to rehab centres in america, us normal wouldnt get it would we?. Some people die because they were on the waiting lists for liver/kidney transplants but couldnt get one in time. Where's the sympathy for them... I know i mentioned this before but its only because it happened to someone close to me so thats why when gazza is mentioned on here, i think immediately to his younger days when he was having a good old jolly and had no consideration towards his own body back then.
He does need help though ,whats the solution though? and another point is, how far do we go with this help?
alcoholics is not a disease, his disease is depression or mental illness. if you never drunk alcohol in your life its impossible to become alcoholic. and some people have depression and some people DO NOT, they use an excuse because they are weak. again i have sympathy for gascoigne, he is an old baby and i am sorry for him.
There's a big difference between alcohol abuse/dependence and alcoholism/addiction.

Is that pre-emptive applause for when i say such words?
ok explain and i will listen. in my opinon its an excuse to say you have a disease to take away responsiblity on themselves. they dont have strength to overcome problems and use alcohol.
Gazza has an illness and needs locking up for a couple of years for his own good.
If he is left unsupervised he will just return to the drink and end up killing himself because of it.
READ GAZZAS BOOK THEN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND
As Spurs already have Greavsie as a recovered alcoholic, and few Spurs players are more legendary then he is, we can probably let Gazza go and meet his maker.

I'm leaving work now so don't have time to explain fully, but please trust me, from personal experience (knowing people who have had alcoholism) it's not an excuse.
It#s nothing to do with strength of character or will power, it's to do with their psychological make-up and state.
The sooner we remove the stigma of addiction and general mental illness, the sooner we can treat people properly and SAVE EVERYONE MONEY. Yes....it would save taxpayers money....
