Depends on who the bid was from.....
Real Madrid, man united, man city or Chelsea = reject all bids.
Anyone else: I'd sell
Would have to pay over the odds to buy other players but we'd still be able to get quality players with that money
To be honest I can kind of see where he's coming from, but then I wonder who would come if we had no bale and no champions league.
----
meh... you can still sign very very good players without that. we got lloris for example, and paulinho!
monaco got falcao moutinho and rodriguez
navas and negredo had been at sevilla ..not in cl..
same with soldado and benega at valencia.
what about totti and de rossi and lamela and pjanic at roma?
suarez at liverpool, villa picked up benteke out of nowhere, same with swansea and michu.
even when city started out they managed to attract robinho and players of that standing at the time.
there are lots of fantastic players who we could attract without being in the cl.
Another pointless Bale article yawn.
Bale is irreplaceable and commercially worth a lot more than £85m to Spurs.
Just because we have a huge wad of cash, does not mean we can just go out and buy top quality replacements. Prices will double of the players that are still available and without the attraction of Bale they will be less inclined to join anyway.
Also we need to lose the tag of being a selling club, just bending over every time a moneybags club comes knocking will not do that.
I would rather have a world class footballer and commercial dream playing for Spurs than £85m in the bank.
We simply have to keep Bale, it is a no brainer.
How is Bale commercially worth £85m?
Yawn
If Bale is wanted so desperately, and a club is willing to break the world record transer fee.to secure him, then that should tell you how valuable to Spurs he really is.
Bale appears on every promotional item at Spurs and is now the face of the club. He appears on computer game covers, on billboards in the US and is now a world renowned figure.
Bale is a marketing dream and Levy knows this.
Hector not commercially worth 85m. Commercially worth a lot more than 85m
Sandy
It was a simple enough question, if you do not sell him, how is he worth 'commercially' £85m?
Shirt sales? Autograph sales? what?
£85m for being a poster boy...Really?
The problem is, if we sell bale for a huge fee, we are going to get mugged by everyone we try to buy from ala Liverpool signing Carroll for 5 Bales.
Levy would need to do the deal quietly and sign the players before it was announced for selling bale at a huge fee to be worth more than selling him for a lower one.
Shirt sales, merchandising, ticket sales, etc etc need we go on
Ricky,
I can see your point regarding having loads of money and not being able to spend it (to a degree) but the truth is that clubs would eventually sell to us at a marked-up price and we'd probably have to offer players an extra 10-20k per week to join a non-champs league club (think man city 3 years ago), we'd still attract quality players.
You say bale is irreplaceable, maybe you're right. But sometimes you accept you can't replace and you restructure the team, make someone else the focal point, alter the tactics etc.
What I can't agree with is saying that is bale is worth more than £85m commercially.
£85m...Really?
I don't think so.
Ticket sales? How does he bring in more ticket sales?
Fair enough he's a damn good player but don't turn him into something he's not. Don't make wild claims like bale is worth more than 85m commercially. facks sake do you realise what that means? Bale is responsible for a little under half of your revenue
I really don't think anyone bar maybe Becks or C.Ronaldo could claim to have made their team £85m through image rights.
Maybe not £85m but still 20 times more than any Celtic player
Calm down Ricky ffs.
I was only asking you to justify your hysterical claim.
I have to agree with mr Chelsea and hector, there's no way he's worth that much commercially unless you mean over an extended period. According to those annual lists by Deloitte our turnover last year was probably about £140m, and if bale and his agent got any hint that bale was raking in big bucks for the club they'd be banging the door down asking why bale is only paid approx £4m per year
@ ricky villas boas, exactly what I been saying about this whole Bale saga
I meant over a period of time he would be worth a lot to Spurs commercially ffs
Why is a Jock on here so interested in Spurs anyway?
I'm sure £85m would be a welcome addition to your new stadium funds.
