sandy the thing is... i genuinely believe that levy could take madrid to the cleaners on this.
he has promised the fans bale, and we could get a ridiculous deal. who knows what madrid might offer. i wonder if they would ever get desperate enough to give up Isco
"Madrid would be cacking in their pants."
Careful what you wish for.
I'm sure the Spanish govt would find the means for Madrid to acquire the money needed.
when people say this it makes me question if they understand football.
I don't agree with you Chronic...
I seriously can't see, apart from maybe a LB and a Bale replacement where the money would be needed. Certainly if we get Soldado, the squad looks good to me.

Revenue blah blah.. no way could we replace him, even if we were to spend the majority of the fee.

when people say this it makes me question if they understand football.
I think if a footballer was to be sold for £100 million, then football would be dead in the water, that is if it is not already imploding with greed.

we could do with a top class left back and a top class centre back, a good bale replacement and a top class striker, maybe even two top class strikers...
the squad is good and i reiterate that i dont want to sell bale... but i understand that if they bid big enough, the club has to accept. whether rightly or wrongly, remember that the club is a business at the end of the day

That day came long ago with CR7.
The extra 20m to top that is merely symbolic.

i actually totally agree with you, but its a completely separate issue.
right lads i am off.. good chatting, interesting debate... i fear we will have to have plenty more of these discussions before summer is over.
i will say this though - the most important thing to me is THFC, not Bale. i am in favour of any deal that in my opinion means that THFC is better or stronger than we were before the deal, and i would be anti any deal which i felt weakened us.
we just have to wait and see what happens now.
It's all good saying we could these players for the bale money but what guarantee is there of any of these players being interested in spurs?? For me unless its an absolute ridiculous offer like 125 million which we all know Real Madrid will not pay then for me I still feel keeping bale benefits us a lot more than selling him. Yes selling bale for 85 million would be great in terms of revenue but we are taking a huge step back by selling our best player and sending a negative message out to all our players.."

While I agree we could always strengthen realistically attracting and paying 4 players better than we have would be beyond us.
Especially once we've sold our best player.. it seems from Paulinho's comments when he signed he was assured he'd play alongside Bale.
With no CL he is the best draw we have. If we fail to achieve his ambitions this season despite the manager being settled and getting a few of his own players in then fair enough. But not now, just when we're so close
Bales left foot, I'm with you completely mate and a lot of Spurs fans are aswell. Lets just praye our chairman keeps his promise to avb. F. Uck Real Madrid and their money!!!!
Laters Chronic, I can see both sides of the debate. If this was a couple of seasons ago I'd agree - the squad was in poor shape but we had the experience and quality in VDV and Modric. Now we've got a young squad that will look to Bale, replacing him is more than just a few worldie goals
I don't want him to go Don
Messi wasn't essentially 'for sale' but the bid met his buyout clause so they were unable to turn it down - messi said he wasn't interested and refused to entertain any negotiations
Lion-el
Thought it was something like that. Weirdly the Spanish press didn't want make a fuss about it
Levy doesn't do buyout clauses.
The premise is simple : on a piece of paper Levy has the selling price of Bale. First Madrid must get there. And then they must show they can pay in terms amenable to Levy.
With 5 weeks of the transfer window remaining, can you see either happening.
If Perez wasn't such a gobby plank-ton and spent some of this mythicall money trying to build an Academy akin to Barcelona, he wouldn't need reams of Galacticos.
Levy gone mad! Thats why arsenal will always be the NL kings.
Not trying to wum but madrid would get Bale for less than £60milion. Bookmark!
