Arsenal..Liverpool, so far apart?

Exactly, if you asked me at the start of last season to do a combined Manchester X1 then I would likely have had more City players but it wouldn't have proved anything though?

There's so much more than just picking the best eleven players from two teams to see who is better.

But agreed I do enjoy doing them too...

They always get a lot of comments as well..

Not saying you think it is, bloodred, but many people do.

The OP says this:

I will list my combined team, as honest as I can....I hope this shows how close the 2 teams are RIGHT NOW, hopefully this will entice a discussion on why I believe we can compete with arsenals, and it should also show that arsenal are not as strong as people make out.

and then goes on to list a combined 11 as if it some how adds credence to his point, but it doesn't at all.

-------------------------Mignolet-----------------------
---Sagna--Mertesacker--Koscielny--Gibbs--
------------------Lucas--------Arteta----------------
------Walcott---------Cazorla---------Podolski---
--------------------------Suarez------------------------

Obviously this is subjective () and you could probably swap Wilshere, Agger and at a push Sturridge in.

Got_Better resorting to posting stats to prove a point. Wouldn't expect any better from such a deluded individual.

"You was being hugely generous lmao, Szczesny and Ramsey"
===

I would take Szczesny over Mignolet. Either way, it's a close call, there isn't much in it. Szcz is younger though. Mignolet is no world beater, don't get twisted.

Ramsey is better than Allen, Lucas, Henderson and every other trash you've got at CM

Darren.....I was trying to show through debate that the 2 teams in personnel terms are not too far away, not as far as last season. You may think its rubbish but I think its reasonable.

You have a point on how a team plays, and this is another reason why I like our chances, its br 2nd season and the teams play will have gelled more....is it enough? Only time will tell.

Maybe Rosicky too

Most people cannot ever agree on their own team's ideal starting line-up in fairness, so I don't expect everyone to agree with the combination of a starting-line up when you have the players of two clubs to choose from!

idk even after city winning the title I still felt they only had 5 or 6 top quality players in their 1st team. zab toure silva aguero hart kompany? the rest littered with average squad players like barry and clichy milner kolarov lescott etc and

Got_Better, I have to admire your relentless optimism.

The problem is the price you paid for him, to pay such a fee you would expect him to be that good. It's no different to signing Carrol for 35M.

Also, as a side note you would be hard pressed to find a comment made by me slating an opposition player.

Someday, there's a fine line between optimism and delusion mate

You shouldn't judge a player on his price but his abilty and age etc the things that matter, both are young players and have their whole careers ahead of them. Sometimes you don't pay huge prices for their current ability but their potential ability....

Fair enough, GB.

I just don't think it matters whatsoever, especially as football is now a squad game.

If you did a combined United and Liverpool 11, and did it objectively, it would not reflect that gap in class between the two sides.

I understand that Liverpool have potential to get top 4, I've been saying it for a while, but it all needs to fall into place and Liverpool need to turn their dominance into wins.

This is the massive difference between the two teams. But what you are also forgetting is that Arsenal also have reasons to be optimistic as there are things they can and may improve upon, same with Spurs.

That's what will make it difficult for Liverpool.

In terms of quality I really don't think there is a great deal between Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool - and no combined 11 will make me change that view - but there's a difference in consistency - and that is the most important thing in getting 4th spot.

I thought Liverpool played better football than Arsenal for the majority of last season, but Arsenal ground out the results whereas Liverpool failed to turn their good football into wins.

This is something United did when Arsenal were playing more attractive football than us. Credit to Arsenal, as it's something they were often criticised for not doing.

GB - Gibbs isn't even Arsenal's best left back.

posted on 28/7/13

Gibbs is our best LB, which is why he starts when both he and Monreal are fit.

posted on 28/7/13

Gibbs is quality, unfortunate with injuries hope to see more of him this season, yes when fit hes Arsenals best left back by miles.

Daz, post your combined XI anyway

Its interesting though, arsenal don't rate johnson, hendo, allen, toure and I dont particularly rate sagna, ramsey, their gk, giroud.

Coutinho has offered more in 13 matches than ramsey has in his entire arsenal career while their gk.....seriously, all the arsenal fans I have seen post want a striker, defender, gk, holding midfielder.

Mignolet, agger, lucas, sturride would get into arsenals fist 11 over their gk, per, have they got a dm??, giroud....thats obvious.

posted on 28/7/13

Gibbs definitely is our best left back and was one of our best players last season, not to knock Monreal however.

posted on 28/7/13

I think he starts because Monreal is only a new player and was being bedded in. He'll make the position his own over the course of next season.

But that's just it, with cost you already have a perception and expectation, it's natural. Players that command high transfer fees are normally rated on first impressions, especially those that don't get much media coverage.

I am ignorant to how good Henderson is because I don't watch Liverpool and therefore do not make comments related to his ability,

posted on 28/7/13

Johnson is a decent RB, Allen is a decent midfielder and Toure is a decent backup CB. Henderson is shocking though. Utterly shocking.

Coutinho is an attacking midfielder, Rambo is a DLP/B2B player. Completely different players.

You really know F all about the game. You're following the wrong sport. Try table tennis.
