Betis paid about 21m for him and was a record if I recall.

For who? If that's Joaquínyou're talking about, he was a Betis youth product.
Denilson was the one they broke the bank for. Major flop.
Vicente. Looked some player at Euro 2004 but then slowly declined. Is he still at Brighton?
To be fair after Veron's stint at United I don't think there was any hype for him to live up to at Chelsea.
Aguero... i expected him to dominate the goal scoring charts when he arrived
Barf Vader_
Gareth Feckin Bale.
Has been lauded as the 3rd best player in the world since hitting a purple patch around December onwards. Have yet to see evidence proving this.
===================
How can anyone say Gareth Bale? He came to the Prem as an average LB and has since been turned into one of the most feared players in the Prem, and in europe.
Hardly a case of not living up to his hype, but instead ridiculously smashing the hype to smithereens.
Can only feel sympathy for Vicente tbh. Spent about 3/4 of his career on the physio's table. Mainly ankle stuff I think it was.

Ariel Ortega was bit of a disappointment I thought
Then again he was meant to be Argentinas new Maradona so hardly surprising he never reached the same heights
-----------
Ortega was highly regarded, but i dont think really helped himself by playing at lower teams.
Jordi Cruyff. Was really looking forward to watching him after United signed him. Was really looking forward to United selling him after watching him play.
Never really much hype about him, but remember Spain int'l Dani Güiza?
His last two clubs have been in Malaysia and Paraguay.
Pablo Aimar
Adriano
Julio Baptista
Luke Chadwick
Michael Ricketts
Francis Jeffers
But worth 80million
Thanks Real
Poborski was another.
had a great euro 96 . . then sucked
Hate to say it, but it hasn't been said:
Podolski
Yeah they paid 21.5m for Denilson. Quick Wiki check confirms it was in 1998. I knew Joaquin was a Betis youth product as Chelsea were linked with him constantly in his Betis days.
Cheap nibbles there Barf.
