Bit of a controversial one but Frank Worthington as good as he was never became the player he should've been.
He missed his big move to us (too much ale the night before his medical) and played most of his career in run of the mill teams, when his talent deserved so much more. He could have lived up to the hype but in the end he never and England were poorer for it I thought.
Tony Daley? Dalian Atkinson after that goal. Always thought Dean Saunders didn't do near as well as what was predicted when he joined Liverpool.
From abroad more recently Alvaro Recoba. Utterly brilliant on his day but that day came a couple of times a year.
After watching Pablo Aimar destroy us at Anfield over 10 years ago now as thought he'd go onto be a world-beater.
wasnt worthington a big písshead though
TGM
John Barnes for England after that goal.
Though he was superb for you.
For us, the signing who dissapointed me the most was Ray Wilkins. He was superb at Chelsea, but once he put the red shirt on he started passing backwards and sideways.
He then went to Milan and came back a much better player.
He enjoyed his drink but more was expected of what he eventually became in his career.
He should've been a full England international. Even if it was more through his activities off the pitch rather than simply not being good enough on it, the point stands that he didn't live up to the hype around him.
Vc,
Barnes' England career was frustrating for all of us I think.
Still believe a lot of it was down to the systems he played in, especially under Taylor. Although a player of his ability should've done more to influence big games.
That goal was a bit of a tease looking back. The ability in that England side back then wipes the floor with the current set-up.
What about Jesper Olsen? Did you lot expect more from him when he came?
When you think about Ray Wilkins you almost forget he played for you. Cracking little player as well.
Sometimes it just doesn't happen at certain clubs.
What about Jesper Olsen? Did you lot expect more from him when he came?
........................
Not really.
Therer are very few wingers who are consistant. For every Barnes and Giggs you get a Downing and Young by the bucket load.
Jesper reminds me a bit of Nani. Outstanding on his day, but frustrating as hell when it wasn't his day.
Fair do's. We couldn't half do with Barnesy now on the left in this team.
You looking forward to Sunday?
Can see you lot picking up the three points if I'm honest. Just believe you'll be more clinical when the big chances come.
Although team selections for both of us might go a fair way to seeing how it pans out.

To be honest, I always used to look forward to our matches more when we were the underdogs.
One thing I do hope is that we play better at Anfield than we did last year. God knows how on earth we won that one, because we did not deserve to.
Yes it was a bit if a sickener that last season. Even with 10 men we were the better side which is quite damning for a side of your ability.
Although having Giggs in your midfield probably evens it up.
I'd take a draw right now to be honest. Even as the home side. Get it out the way and move on.
All the young players Leeds had between 1999-2003 who left the club - only Ferdinand actually went onto achieve the potential he showed.
Robinson, Woodgate, Bowyer, Kewell, Smith.
Although having Giggs in your midfield probably evens it up.
...........................
If you had the time to trawl back through my posts you will find me saying SAF was evening it up by keeping Giggs on.
If he plays on Sunday, you will win. No doubt about it at all. We can not play against your midfield, a man down.
Kewell wasnt that bad at Liverpool but every one in that list apart from the GK had insane injury problems.
Bowyer is just rubbish.
I hoave no idea how Giggs still has the legs to play at the very highest level of football at the age of 40.
I look at Lampard now and even though he is still very fit he sometimes can match the intensity of a top level PL game. I wouldn't play him against Man United or City again.
i think smith is a tad harsh.
he was a decent enough player, which noone really bigged up.
had a decent first season at utd, then for some reason fergie decided he was keanes replacement
did ok at newcastle too.
who knows, had he not suffered that horrific injury we may be talking differently.
Yea I've seen you in particular and quite a few others have been vocal over his role in the side.
He has looked very pedestrian for a while now and after that bruiser for us on Tuesday night, we could do with having him on the pitch.
Likewise I'm worried about our centre backs now that Kolo is out as well. Van Persie's movement up against Skrtel and Agger, could be a long 90 minutes. He's enjoyed coming up against us in recent seasons.
The two biggest for me as a Liverpool fan are Kewell and Morientes.
Thought both were going to be great, they were not.
what about Alberto Aquilani, he was good before he joining Liverpool and still is quite a tidy player. Just did nothing whilst in England.
Gigs reminds me a bit of Rushie. Albeit he's remained part of a very successful side.
Rush played on for a good 3/4 years longer than he should have IMO and it was painful to watch at times. Be it in his last year with us or even when he moved on to Leeds and Newcastle, where he looked a very average striker near the end.
TGM
Funnily enough Rushies only ever goal agaisnt us was in that period.
Vc,
I know his record against you was remarkably poor but I always thought he scored more than one!
Towards the end though he couldn't buy a goal against pretty much anyone.
no, just the one goal for rush against utd, and it came very late on during his liverpool career
Prett sure he scored in the Game at Anfield that killed your title hopes when Leeds won it.
That was a still a few years before he left. Sure there was more than one. Maybe not many more but more all the same!
