VC, I spent some time in Houston growing up around gun toting, bible thumping republicans, they turned me democrat.

In the UK though, I'm more Centre Right

Macca,

That's why i'm erring with Chelsea. Even then, I'm not 100% sure though, there is definitely the possibility the relationship between Jose and Chelsea isn't as succesful second time around!

The US just do not have any chance. Both parties suck, and will never get anything worthwhile done because of bipartisan politics.

It really doesn't matter whio the Pres is, he has no power what so ever.

I love how he was heaping all this praise on Arsenal, Wenger and Ozil and then predicts Liverpool to finish above them.

Indeed VC, I remember telling some friends that Obama was a puppet but they argued and now I just tell them I told you so.

There is no way in hell they will give anyone outwith their control the power to launch nukes.

Sadly, the masses do not get this.

everyone is predicting utd wont win the league so savage is hardly putting his neck on the line with that prediction.

The question is should utd and moyes really be expected to win it this season.

One of the reasons why the Roman Empire collapsed was that it's political system didn't work.

The same with the US. It really is a similar system.

There are, sadly a few similarites with the UK, in that there are certain areas where you vote for only one party (because that is the way it is), instead of voting for the party that will actually be best for the country.

Why wouldn't they be blabla? Expected to win it is probably a bit strong, but expected to compete, then you would say yes, surely?

Ultimately, that's the downside of democracy VC, or at least our current implementation of it.

Thanks.

If it comes on the news that someone just attacked Robbie Savage, knocking him out then shouting "That's how I roll" in his face, then it was me!

Melts

I live in an area of Republicans. They only vote Republican because their parents voted Republican and their parents before them.

It is utter idiocy IMO

I play golf with two of them, and constantly wind them up about the Democrats being in power.

Yet when you ask them what they want to see happen in their country, they really should be voting Democrat.

posted on 6/9/13

melton you yourself cite jose experiance of winning the title before as a reason for chelsea being favourite. Wouldnt the opposite apply to moyes ?

UTD will compete theres no question of that. Is it expecting to much of him to win it with utd in his first season...

Democracy is a farce anyway.

VC,

I have a few friends that are the other way round! Definitely won't vote conservative, but then you listen to what they want and their views and they are completely aligned!

The problem I have with democracy is that it relies on public intelligence for it to work....

Blabla,

Slightly difficult to explain! I think Chelsea are slight favourites due to Mourinho, but I think the expectations of all three should be similar. I don't think it is expecting too much of Moyes or Pellegrini to compete.

I just think it is dangerous to lower expectations too far. Yes, they are new managers to their club, but that is what most teams go through far more often. They are still expected to get the most out of their squad, and as I said, I think the three squads are very similar. If there is one team that is significantly off at the end of the season, then I would say they have performed worse than should be expected.

Hope that makes sense!

Dazza

It is and it isn't.

It is a farce in that no one is ever really free.

However would you rather be governed like the North Koreans?

And there lies the problem.

"However would you rather be governed like the North Koreans?"

And there is the flip side!

posted on 6/9/13

I mean that it's a farce in that it's not actually democracy.

The ideal is that it's meant to be the 'rule of the people', but this has never been the case and never will be.

But yeah I'd rather have this sham version of democracy than be in North Korea. Although, having said that, in ideal world a dictatorship with an infallible dictator is the best form of government.

My brother has just got back from South Korea, had a wedding over there. He visited the demilitarised zone, said there was just a row of around 1000 south korean troups wearing mirrored sunglasses just staring out into what was effectively desert. They don't move at all all day, and then swap over after eight hours.

Madness.

I really would like to go to North Korea, though. Just to see what it's like. It's really one of the most fascinating places in the world.

I wouldn't mind going to Vietnam. It was on one of my favourite episodes of Top Gear.

Melton I expect us to compete but it will be the same old story regarding credit from opposition fans whatever the outcome of the PL and the football season as a whole. If utd win it will be because Moyes took over the pl winning squad. If utd dont win it it will be because hes not good enough and will be labled a failure. Not that UTD fans will give a toss whatevers said....

I think it would probably be one of those trips that could haunt you for a long time Darren.

Have you seen the satellite picture of the world at night? North Korea is just blackness.

To be honest, I actually think being written off and being the underdogs suits us as it gives the players even more drive an determination.

How many times have we been written off over the years only to have the last laugh?

Plenty of times we've gone into a season being the underdogs for the title.

And we all know that we do get complacent.

It'll just make it all the more sweeter if we do win the title.

That said, I'd really like to see us play some attractive football again. That's my biggest hope more so than the title.
