The club tried to sack Sandaza and ended up having to pay him off.
Unless the club itself has a betting policy, which it probably doesnt, it would be difficult to sack Ian Black for just putting a coupon on.
Also, as will be the case at many other clubs, I dont think Ian Black will be the only player at Ibrox thats put a coupon on in the last couple of years. the SFA knew they were opening a can of worms with this but had no option, the club will probably know they would be doing the same if an example was made of Black.
Also, to my knowledge, when he bet against his own team, it was when he was at Hearts predominantly, dont even know if he actually bet agaisnt Rangers. Sure the principle applies that it shows a great deal of dishonesty and leves the door open for a lack of effort being put in.
But I think the club is taking the right stance here, he's been punished, its over with, we all know he is definately not the only player in Scotland that has put coupons on, so to sack him for doing something various other players are doing could lead to all sorts of bother down the line whne it comes to unfair dismissal and all the rest of it......so lets just move on
It's not the putting coupons on that bothers me and I agree it's a silly rule.
It's the specific case of betting against your own team. It was confirmed that one of those bets were against rangers. That's what baffles me about this.
This is a mountain being made out of a mole hill if you ask me.
This bet against Rangers was a bet on a draw against East Stirling (away) as part of a £5 accumulator.
Aye he's been daft to include a Rangers game on his coupon but seriously, he included it in a £5 accumulator. Its not the crime of the century.
Also, the game in question was 2-2 at one point, guess who scored the goal to make it 3-2 to Rangers?
Ian Black.
Now lets move on.
its alleged he bet for Rangers to draw with east stirling at the tail end of last season
ironically he scored the winning goal
That's the kind of detail I was after Ron.
I would be intrigued to know what kind of odds that was though I imagine the would have been quite high so the potential winnings could have been very high.
I get the point about him scoring so you could argue it didn't affect his professionalism.
I just can't quite get over the fact that he has deliberately bet against the team though.
As a fan I do find that very difficult to take
"I just can't quite get over the fact that he has deliberately bet against the team though"
Was him and his brother was it not, so it wasnt just him.
He shouldnt have done it, bottom line.
But he has, and it has been dealt with...so lets move on.
Dont thnk fans should give him a hard time for it myself.........I know fans that have bet agasint Rangers before, I dont do it myself and never will or intend to, I just dont bet on my team period, I'm superstitious that way....but I know Rangers fans that have done it in the past.
For me, the key point is that I fail to believe Ian Black is the only person guilty of this in the entirety of Scottish Football.l...and thats why I feel this is not benig made into a bigger issue....and rightly so.
Its a draconian rule by the SFA that severely needs looked at.
This summed it up well for me

"the most astonishing outcome of the Black case is the confirmation both by legal experts and the SFA that the rule applies to all footballers and football officials registered with the SFA, be they amateurs or professionals."
Some of you on here probably play with an amateur sides at the weekend.......did any of you know that if you put a coupon on, you broke the rules same as Ian black did???
He's a total nugget for betting against his own team and Ally is a tool for not condemning that to the high heavens.
However, the SFA betting rule is a complete shambles!
Black os bviously not the only player to put on a coupon, he's also not the only player who's bet against his own team and in fact he's not the only Rangers player who's bet against the team in recent times when they've been in the squad for said match.
Maybe behind the scenes Ally was a bit more scathing but wanted to show some public support to try and get the fans back on his side but I doubt that somehow. McCoist most certainly doesn't seem to strike the slightest bit of fear into ANY of the players. I can't imagine a player betting against his own team if Smith was in charge for fear of getting his baws well and truly toed
The SFA should scrap their stupid rule about betting on all football and, if they feel it necessary, clubs can write up their own rules about betting against your own club or what have you.
super
I'd imagine the odds would have been decent, nothing massive though considering our away form last year.
No idea how many teams or what other results he had on his coupon so its impossible to tell what his accumulator would have returned.
But considering Black gets several thousand pounds a week as his wage, I doubt a £5 accumulator would be anything to write home about.
For me its a non issue.
He's also been fined more than 100 £5 accumulators is ever likely to win you

Is it possible he didn't know?
I am no bookie monster so don't know the ins and outs but isn't there prefilled sheets that you can just tick the boxes on if you are in a hurry?
Zach
Bit harsh
He bet on Rangers....yet scored the goal to null his own bet.
Football players bet, they are young guys with loads of money to spunk.....pretty obvious betting is going to happen somehow
Yer a fool if you think Black is the only person at Ibrox or at any other club in Scotland that has done this.
You gonna sack the whole team or just the ones that are known....that'd be hypocritical...and thats why Black is not being made an example
He was daft....but he's no more guilty than many others, I have absolutely no doubts about this
Its like the Barry Ferguson/Alan McGregor thing with Scotland......the whole team was boozing, was just they two that stayed up that wee bit later than the rest and they were hung out to dry coz of it.
Black has just done one bet too many and been found out....simples

Dont agree Zach
Bit petty that imo
Bascially if he bet on Rangers it would have been ok then...so its no the fact he's betting, its the fact he's wanted Rangers to lose...yet lost that bet through his own action of scoring, demonstrating clearly that his agenda was not to play pi$h and lose??
that thinking doesnt add up for me, contradicts itself
Technically he bet 'against' Rangers.
He also technically bet 'against' East Stirlingshire.
Maybe he based his prediction for a draw on the fact he trains with the team every day and seen they were a bunch of useless cants who had already won the league?
Sure there was plenty Gers fans with the same bet on!
Kind of my point Papa
and again, it was him and his brother that did these acca's to my knowledge.....could have been his brother's bet and he merely phoned up to put in on for him against his account??
all sorts of ins and outs to this.
Bottom line is, he never won any money through betting on Rangers, he scored to lose his own or his brothers bets and he's been punished for everything else he has done.
the rules are a shambles and need changed.
Lave it there, lets get back to on the pitch matters, got enough $hite to deal with off the field
Green got rid of sandaza because he turned out to be a poor signing, if he had scored a barrow load he wouldn't have been sacked, simple really.
Black has come out and apologised, explained that he put a silly £5 bet that include rangers to draw, he scored the winner that day, gave his all.
The guy has accepted he is lucky to be at our club, so he accepts his punishment. Lets draw a line under it and move on.
We all know what the media want, but is it such a massive crime

regarding Sandaza, he had no right to tout himself to eanr higher wages at Rangers. he was a god awful signing, sure he got a bad injury but before and after he was terrible
the club had every right to bin him, just like if he was banging the goals in, he would have every right to think he should perhaps earn more.
also, we ended up paying sandaza off,
"My money pays his fookinwages"
I dont really see what that has to do with it myself??
Have Ian Black's actions led to the club losing a game or losing money??
Would you rather pay your money to have him as a part of the squad or to pay him to sit on his er$e for a year or so until his contract is up, or a pay off.
He done wrong aye, but he's been punished mate
I think if he was scoring goals, the fans would have plenty to say, not many campaigned to keep him, by the same token I don't think many would have stuck by black if he had been sacked
By all accounts he aren't playing for a draw that day, he scored the winner ffs, the players and management are sticking by him
