Sheriff, the salient point here is that it is an outrageous claim to suggest Townsend should be a candidate for the team of the season. He hasn't even been the best winger in north London for Gods' sake.

EVERY Chelsea fan I personally know think Zola is the best no. 10 in the Premier League era. Whether they're right or not is highly disputable but that's a stupid, ignorant - and irrelevant - comment. I'm getting quite sick of the objectivity thing. I don't see how it bears any relevance to saying a player who I've watched almost everytime for club and country has been one of the best in the league in in his position this season.

Townsend hasnt been bad, he has actually been one of the better wingers in the league this season, however that is more because the standard of wingers has been absolutely horrendous.

To put this comment into perspective, let's compare the league games:

Townsend has started 10 Premier League games, made 4 sub appearances, has had 46 shots and has one goal to his name which was a mishit cross against Villa. He has zero assists.

Gouffran has made 13 Premier League starts and also has 4 sub appearances. He has had 21 shots, but has 5 goals and 2 assists to his name.

And Sherriff was telling me Townsend is a ''menace''. No end product to his game at all. Gouffran is comfortably the bigger goal threat. He may not have the turn of pace that Townsend has. But he makes up for that in other areas where Townsend isn't so good. Like footballing intelligence and spatial awareness.
