Wonder how Atleti's squad would compare to Madrid's and Barça's.
The point more with Chelsea, is that the youth development in a better way than arsenal, that will bring fruit (profit or players) very soon.
-----------------------------------------------
I think that is more of a 'hope' commment than realistic outcome.
The youth policy and lack of 1st team players at Chelsea is constantly used by opposition supporters to try and get some sort of morale victory.
For the last 10 years + we have been at the top of the league and often into the latter stages of the CL.
Until Roman took over our youth policy was not very good in fact it was very poor.
All Chelsea supporters would love to see a few home growns make the 1st team, but at what cost?
If you gave a supporter the choice of challanging and winning throphies season after season with bought players or playing for Europa at the best with half a team of youth players only an 1diot would go for the 2nd option.
Also the youth players have to be better than what you currently have and they have to be in the right positions, we have a number of No.10 type players out on loan but with our current crop of attacking midfielders they wont get a game.
If we had an exciting left back he would probably stand a much better chance of getting inot the ream at the moment.
Fair enough White wall, tbh Holtby used CFC as an example as having the same youth policy as AFC and thats how the discussion started.
Can your club not try to do both coz soon you won't be able to make those giant purchases that you used to,FFP?
White Wall, I suppose what you say is true. I guess ideally most people would want a balance of the two.
But it's pretty funny seeing Arsenal fans calling for Wenger to spend big so that they can win trophies now that they've got money to spend, after years of trying to take the moral high ground over their balance sheet.
Whitewall, I recall Ancelotti gave a few reserves and young players a run out in a Carling Cup tie a few years ago at home to Newcastle and Chelsea lost. Of course it is only one game, but if you don't play them, you will never know.
But it's pretty funny seeing Arsenal fans calling for Wenger to spend big so that they can win trophies now that they've got money to spend, after years of trying to take the moral high ground over their balance sheet.

Darren, we are spending money we have generated through years of saving, selling our best players and building a new stadium. We've never said anything to Man U fans coz you've basically been doing the same thing for years. The 2 teams we're competing against, not so much.
GUNNERBEGOOD (U10646)
Jose gave Baker last years U18 captian a run out in the FA cup this year. only the last 10 mins against Derby but its a start.
People slag him off for never brining through youth players, but in his 1st stint at Chelsea our youth just wasnt good enough.
However he brought through Diarra who went onto to play at Real Madrid and gave game time to Dalla Bona. Both these players decided to leave Chelsea we wanted to keep them.
We've never said anything to Man U fans coz you've basically been doing the same thing for years.

That's facking ballacks.
United were always accused of buying the title by Arsenal fans. Money was always used as an excuse, even when you had it.
Now that there are billionaire clubs the goal posts have been moved to it having to be self generated.
Wenger's financial propaganda has worked a treat on Arsenal fans over the years.
Because Jose is a,live in the present type manager, bringing through youth is not his top priority, never has been.
"Because Jose is a,live in the present type manager, bringing through youth is not his top priority, never has been."
It's not his top priority, but it is a cliche to say he has always ignored them.
Out of interest, which manager do you think has a top priority of bringing through youth out of any of the big clubs? All of them should have the top priority of winning football matches surely?

I can't speak for the AFC fans you've spoken to, i'm talking from a personal point of view.

Spending big now would actually balance Arsenal's balance sheet.
Jose is a winner he wants to win every game even in the COC.
If the youth player can be brought in and the teams performance not affected he will (hopefully) but winning is his No.1 priority not youth development.
FFP may change this who knows? PSG are doing their best to make a mockery of FFP as it is.
"If you gave a supporter the choice of challanging and winning throphies season after season with bought players or playing for Europa at the best with half a team of youth players only an 1diot would go for the 2nd option."
So speaks the Premiership generation. It'd be awful to ONLY compete in the Europa at best. My god
Try making that point with fans of the 88-odd other league clubs in the country and see how far you get. But, I guess they're all idiots.
I bet all the fans of the 88-odd other league clubs would rather be challenging for and winning trophies than not.
Henrys, I think you have completely misunderstood what he said there. He gave the scenario 'given the choice, which would you rather see' - He didn't belittle the Europa League, just made the point that if it were a choice between winning trophies every year, or playing in Europa, most would choose the former.
Nobody said it'd be awful to compete in the EL, just not as optimal as the CL/League

That's jolly sporting of you, Jay - and I've no doubt this White Wall chap will appreciate you wording it far better, and far more tactfully, than he did. But, I can read what he wrote and it smacks of typical 'top 4' arrogance and makes me feel ever so slightly bilious.

Many of them are, they are competing for silly pretend, worthless trophies like the League Cup, the Championship, League 1 title, etc. Some of them might even be hoping for a dream game in the Europa League off the back of it.
For such a crap thread the comments more than make up for it!
That may be, but if said fans were given the choice between that and competing for and winning the biggest trophies in football then most would choose the latter.

Thats a mighty big chip on your shoulder.
Where did I say competing in the Europa league is a bad thing? maybe you can enlighten me???
I said (as previous posters have said) A choice between CL and winning things and the Europa.
You do know that Utds famed golden generation didn't come through at Utd either so. Giggs was 14, beckham was 15 and scholes was 16 when they joined Utd but they count as Utd youth?
At least we make some of our players
