I dont know how anyone can say Can was a passenger last night
He was literally the only midfielder actually creating decent triangles in & around Swansea's box. This kinda of stuff always goes unnoticed though. Pretty sure Klopp notices it though, which is why he always seems to be picked.

Fully agree with this. I was suprised that Can got taken off but maybe he was tired. Out of the midfield 3 he was the only one that was trying to make things happen in the final 3rd. Unfortunately we had a striker who would be more use to us if he was back on the treatment table.

I would probably still pick Wij over Can but don't get how Can is becoming the whipping boy for some. He's not been great in some games but he never hides.

I agree on Can last night.

He hasn't been good lately but he's a winner.

He shows up and tries to make things happen.

We need to find how to use him best which looks like deeper midfield with Hendo going backwards again.

We need to get Wij in the team and get him in the box. He's a goalscorer but hasn't got in the box enough since he joined. I thought he should have come on earlier last night but we all know Klopp doesn't really do early subs.

The forward players we have now are all the same. They don't make runs behind or running the channels.
Coutinho and Firmino need those players around them to flourish.

I hope we have a private jet ready for Mane when Senegal is knocked out on saturday.

hard to be making runs in behind when teas are sitting back on the edge of their box. Thats out achilles. Sit back with 10 behind the ball and with having 3 midfielders sitting deep it restricts the options further ahead.

When you have a team sitting deep you can counter attack this with going wide and deliver a good cross.

The proof is there with Mane we had scored more goals and created more chances. this was against packed defences sitting deep.

Yeah we swung many a ball into the box last night. Nothing came of it. We tried passing our way though. nothing. Not just this game, but every game we've struggled in.

I'm not buying the idea that when Mane returns it'll all be rosy again. First Matip was the answer (and was dreadful last night) now it's mane. The problems run deeper with a lack of midfield creativity being one of the main problems.

Do we really need to stick with a 433 when up against a deep defence?

I've been saying since he was signed that Firmino should play as striker. He can make use of anything including crosses and is actually dangerous when he drops deep too. He can finish and can assist. Better for our style of play than Sturridge.

It is not about swinging a ball into the box but about swinging the ball with quality. We don't do this, our set pieces are awful, look to the corners we get, awful delivery all the time.

Some good balls went in last night but we didn't attack them well enough. You also have to credit Southampton defensively.

Yoshida and Stephens were seen as weak links but they headed and kicked everything.

Men in the box at the right time is as important as good delivery. Bad crosses can look good if players time their runs well and in numbers.

TAA put a number of decent quality balls into the box, good enough to have led to chances at goal, but you have to have players on the run who want to make it happen.

Mane gives you something last night's players didn't. He takes the ball wide and not after ten passes when their left back and right back have come in next to the centre backs and their midfielders come out to the full back position, which results either in a cross to a packed box or passing the ball back to the centre in front of the packed box. He pulls players with him and takes them on, creating space. We badly packed this last season after we sold Sterling and with Mane going it's magnified again.

I said from the beginning when Mane is out we need to play Ojo. He may be inexperienced but he can do that job which has a good impact on the team. Without it our attackers have no space and cut inside to make things even more compact. Hell Markovic could have even been an option.
