We actually put in a good enough performance yesterday, Henderson was his usually frustrating self, keeps the ball well but only when passing backwards or sideways, we need more coming from the midfield when playing alongside Milner and Wijnaldum. If he wants to pretend to be Gerrard then he needs to be a little more ballsy with the ball.
He shouts a lot, and clearly shows some leadership but he's still the weakest player in the midfield.
A good game against City (and even then an OK game not a great performance) doesn't negate the poor performances he's put in all season long.

If, after watching Klopps team for 3 years, you still don't know what Hendos role is, then there's no chance anyone can educate you.
3 years. As captain of the team. And you're still banging on about him offering nothing and flailing around the live thread in histrionics.

To be honest robbing it's not a massive shock considering I never played the game. I'm facking terrible at football. But I've been watching it for years, and watching Henderson for years now and perhaps I'm just wildly missing the point but I just haven't seen a top performance from him since Brendan was at the club.
If he was as good as some are making him out to be why did we spend £80m odd on two midfielders?
Henderson was fine, the issue is just that all three midfielders are the same. Box to box solid players, decent at everything great at nothing. Can play basic passes, the ocassional crossfield ball, will ocassionally play a striker in, can press but arent exactly tackle masters and dont contribute many goals, a decent amount of assists between the three but they dont split defenses for fun and none excel at the forward role.
Coutinho was a great attacking midfielder and could press high and had incisive passing, but he wasnt exactly defensively sound, was rubbish at defending and attacking set peices and as good as his press was you wouldnt want him tackling in our half to break up play, nor dropping in at fuback to cover a run.
Mascherano was our best dm, could tackle like a beast, was defensively aware and could play accurate short passes to someone more creative. You would always feel more solid with him on the pitch, but it's not like he cracked defenses with his incisive passing every game, nor scored a lot of goals.
Alonso was a perfect deep player too, while he wasnt quite the brick wall that masch was he had a passing range that was almost unparalleled. Able to unlock defenses from deep.
Gerrard went from the coutinho role to the alonso role and excelled in both.
The point of all that is to say, that the best midfields can recall: rafas triangle, alonso masch gerrard, and rodgers diamond, gerrard, henderson, coutinho, sterling
All had different types of players, with different abilities. The current three we have to play with, while fabinho and keita are bedded in, are all the same, which means our play suffers, but it doesnt mean they individually are bad players.
The abuse hendo gets is ludicrous, its almost as if when lucas left he was the nominated scapegoat replacement.

Look, fair enough, and I'm not trying to be a pr!ck about it. I'd suggest we spent £80m on midfielders because we were short in numbers. I'd probably start to look at why Henderson keeps them out of the team though. I did say this would happen too tbf to myself.
Henderson is a managers dream in a lot of ways and I think he'd get games at every side in this league bar maybe City and that's due to their system.
Manfrom
Defensively, everything he seems to do is hurried and frenetic, he is lauded on here as a calm head but I just don't see that when I watch him play. He hits hard passes back to the centre backs, and whilst he is clearly a dogged and tireless player, he clearly doesn't have the positioning that a proper DM would have hence he's always running around like a madman. You don't see that from the natural defensive midfielders.
Clearly he isn't a defensive midfielder it's not what he was bought for he's just ended up in that role because, to his credit, he is massively versatile.
But if he was the great CM he's made out to be why is he being made out to be an auxiliary DM and if he was so good at the DM role why have we signed Fabinho and also played Wijnaldum and Milner in that role also?
I appreciate I don't have the technical knowledge of most on here, never claimed otherwise, but I say it how I see it and (once they are bedded in) I'd rather see a proper defensive midfielder, a box to box and an attacking midfielder to link the attack.
Ox - Fabinho - Keita
That would be the best balanced midfield we could put out where possible, I appreciate we just don't have that option just yet.
I will say that he's probably made out to look a lot more of a nothing player with 2 others in the midfield that don't really offer creativity. He does always look a lot better with a Coutinho or even a Chamberlain in midfield. Somebody needs to be in there with an attacking spark.

As I said, I just call it how I see it. Keita hasn't exactly played how we expected, expectations were far too high from all of us, and Fabinho hasn't had a chance yet so he probably is the best option but I just felt we desperately needed to change things due to our poor form recently.

Everything about this is pretty much spot on.
Especially the last paragraph. Fans on here love a good scapegoat. Lucas, Skrtel, Hendo.
Now we've reached a level where Hendo is actively a detriment to keita and Fabinho because he is keeping them out of the team.

Expectations were unreasonably high with some folks because of the money paid for these two.
Others had much lower expectations because, like myself, had never seen either play before.
I think it's ridiculous to be calling for someone like Fabinho to be in the starting XI when he's barely been witnessed playing. Just because he cost a lot and is all shiny and new doesn't make him the messiah
