Not really comparable in any way. And nobody is saying there is a one size fits all. To turn your point over, what squad, ever, has brought nobody in and done better the following season....ever.

New quantities always have the potential to upset squads, flop, suffer injuries, alienate others.
Its not as simple as buying a player and saying look we improved.. Its kind of what makes football exciting, teams rise and fall based on player turnover.
Plenty of instances of us signing to improve the team / squad and doing worse.

Clearly people need new signings like a comfort blanket.
Despite the fact that the player may end up worse than the player hes replaced, take time to settle, or be injured and irrelevant anyway.
Its the whole "everyone else has improved while we stood still" that i dont get.
We have sold no-one of importance the only team better than ours last season have potentially lost two critical players. Yet signings = improvements to some, rather than risks..

Plenty of single signing seasons where he went on with largely the same squad, and plenty of those that may have been starters and flopped or just ended up squad players.
It would be interesting to see departures alongside it to judge wether they actually stengthened or not. Probably 10 years there where a signing didnt mean they improved.

Plenty of single signing seasons where he went on with largely the same squad, and plenty of those that may have been starters and flopped or just ended up squad players.
It would be interesting to see departures alongside it to judge wether they actually stengthened or not. Probably 10 years there where a signing didnt mean they improved.

No. There are no single seasons where he went in with the same squad,. Thats the point. You harp on about Fergie's philosophy but ignore him contnually bringing in players to challege for a starting place. You can't have it both ways.
