How much do Asian wedding cost now? in 2005 probably cost me 15k i'm guessing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheap that. How much did you make back in the envelopes?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
3-4k max
You were lucky if someone dropped a 20 note in them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No word of a lie, some 20 years back at my sisters wedding, some cheap facker dropped a £2 cheque in the envelope.
Obviously knew who it was.
Laughed about it for years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
that would not have even been worth the visit to the bank.
It's all changed now. Auties have spreadsheets knowing who much everyone paid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember before spreadsheets there used to he a trusted uncle on a small table with a little notebook noting it all down..

Your wife must be a fit pretty one if you pay 100k for the wedding.
Back in days a lot were arranged and you still get some now which are arranged. If you can't find anyone cos your ugly there is always a plan B which is to go back to Pak/India flash the British passport and get some hot village girl and bring her over.
Days vary but I had 4, girl mendhi, boy mendhi, girl side wedding, man side wedding. No animals but now you get guys coming on a horse. No way can you get a elephant here.
Loads of companies now and they charge a bomb for what I paid peanuts for.
Yet before all that there is the engagement party which is probably anywhere between 6 months and 2 years before the wedding.
Then like Kash says there is the mehndi parties (wedding prep parties) boys side and girls side, some facking present giving, before those. Then theres the wedding, girls side on the day of the wedding and then the boys side the day after.
Then aside from all those, the groom and bridegroom will also have their stag and hen do as the convention requires.
After the honeymoon they will then get invited for dinner at a different relatives house every single facking week.
Animals some will perhaps have the groom arriving on a horse though the usual horse is either a Ferrari or Porsche now.. facking fleet of super cars for the day of the wedding.
It really is a massive waste of money..
Oh make up.. bride will shell out close to a grand for someone to apply make up on the day which will take forever and cause her to be 3 hrs late. Then 4 hours later she'll be crying her eyes out and it's all ruined anyway.
Fun fact...
In boston, the off license, that is the liquor store is called the package store.
They of course shorten that to p@ckie.
"Wheah's my cah keys, i'm off down the p@ckie"
Don't forget the biggest waste which is buying the Gold. Girl buys a set and then we buy her a set and they never wear it again. Ours is in some safety deposit box. Probably worth a bit now but she won't fackin sell it

Facking hell I won’t be proposing to my mrs any time soon if that’s what it will cost. How much does the average person spend on a wedding?

2016 £15k including honeymoon which is about 4 of that. That is pretty cheap compared to others I know. Key is getting a venue that allows you to book your own caterers etc rather than all in house or off their agreed suppliers. Oh and don't invite a million people like some do.

In the UK its spiralled out of control.. one of the reason for the many many guests is that when the Asian population first arrived, when there was a wedding you invited everyone.
That trend has had to persist as someone might get offended at not being invited.
Hence the numbers!
We didn't pay corkage on drinks with food we supplied but had to use a local bar they work with for the evening. But they just charged standard pub prices - my mates from London almost fell over when they paid

Yeah gold really is the killer, once I add up the gold sets, engagement ring, wedding band, gold for the groom's sisters etc - we're talking close to like £30k which is just mental. Gold price was particularly high as well which severely stung.
Also yeah, arranged marriage is a frowned-upon term now in the wider community due to the past stigma associated with it - 'assisted marriage' is the new term and simply means an introduction via the family rather than pressure or force on the couple.
That said I met my Mrs via Tinder
