I think it's quite a sick attitude towards preventable illnesses.

I also think these comparisons to the flu are wholly complacent when more people are likely to catch this and the death rate is at beat predictions: 10x deadlier, and in terms of medical outcomes of hospitalized cases: 60x deadlier.

Honestly, looking at raw numbers like you are is just callous and an attitude akin to trumps that's going to help spread it

Looking at statistics is objective.

What are you going on exactly?!

because thats completely different

In the context of 'people die, life goes on' it really isn't.

You aren't comparing like for like.

You are comparing people that caught a flu over its lifetime to a viral infection that's in the infancy of its infection and all experts are saying is likely to reach pandemic levels and infect 40-60% of the population, killling large amounts of it.

If you want to look at statistics objectively then don't compare apples and oranges..

And acknowledge that there's a human element here too. And that it's highly likely given the statistics that someone on here is likely to die or lose a close family member.

So don't be callous, don't be cruel and don't downplay official communications designed to slow the spread of the illness so that the NHS doesn't collapse under a sudden burden of sick.

Just as a side note, the NHS can only currently produce around 1k testing kits per day, which is well below the requested number, we won't EVER know how many people will have the sickness because we can't test them.

Secondly the number of infections the NHS can cope with numbers in the thousands, which is why they are telling people to be so cautious, once nurses and doctors are going sick this number will fall and when these coronavirus sufferers are having to be treated in the hallways it's pretty much game over for containment and the upper survival estimates.

Downplaying this thing serves no one because it leads to complacency and faster spread.

I think the fact I havent been able to buy loo roll the last two days on my way home from work is a price worth paying to stop the collapse of nhs services

If/When the government predictions of 1 in 6 workers off sick does play out (and the reason they publish it is so that people take it seriously) then people will struggle to get just in time goods like toilet roll,

And the government still havent started their promised scheme to get goods to self quarantiners, so i can understand why people are buying it up.

At what point does it stop being panic buying and become practical steps? The Chinese government have forced all factory workers to take two weeks worth of food to work incase they end up quarantined there ffs..

I've added a few extra tins of food to my shops so far for the last two weeks, but I've been unable to get bog roll for three days

I had a tuna mayo the other day. Included chopped onions, green chilli and lettuce. Was scrumptious.

I often look to yourself as a source of wisdom on these boards. Why do we expect the spread of the virus here to be so much more severe than in China?
