We had anti vax nutters outside work with placards on Thursday (our delivery office is right in the centre of town)

They were there two hours waving "Vaccines are the real virus" "Experimental poison" etc and they had this massive "Honk if you agree with us" banner on the railings.

Didn't hear a honk all morning, loads of people shouting at them from their cars though, they looked quite dejected as they packed up early

By this point last season “match day 4” we’d conceded 11 goals, only conceded 1 up to now!

Looking really good defensively, I must say.

8 points up on the comparative fixtures from last season already too

Was really happy with Salah's defensive efforts. He was great

Good win yesterday at what was notoriously a difficult team and place to go up against. It was very much straightforward in the end, could have easily been 8+ really.

Shocking to see Elliot's injury as well like that, really unfortunate for both parties, but more so Elliot suffering what will be a long-term injury. Let's hope he comes back stronger.

Not to get carried away (we're basically in title winning form atm) but I fancy us to win the rest of our September fixtures. Brentford away could be tricky by still.

October, however, looks very tough. With tough games comes great opportunity though and although I would be happy two two points from City and Utd, four would lay down a marker and 6 would be ridiculous.

October Fixtures:
City (H)
Watford (A)
Atletico (A)
Utd (A)
Brighton (H)

Big month!

That's more like it from Mane...he was everywhere yesterday.

How he didn't bag a hattrick I will never know. His finishing has been so unlike him for a while now.

I didn't think his performance outside of that was that bad really, whereas it was his performances last season that were the issue.

His movement was ridiculous. Couldn't finish his dinner mind but still.

For the tap in he somehow managed to get over the bar there are three separate movements and he is a nightmare to mark.

I know people get frustrated but if he bangs in 15+ league goals there really isn't too much to complain about imo. I also don't think finishing is something that declines.

You still have to be critical of Mane. Luckily Leeds are made for us but in other games he will only get 1 or 2 chances and he needs to do better. Also his link up play was pretty poor in final 3rd.

Can't fault the effort and desire and he managed to get a goal after a bad day so lets hope he kicks on,

Mane's all round game has looked much better this season than it did for large parts of last. Finishing is still abysmal but that is something he can rediscover.

Agreed. He hasn't been getting into those positions as often, and missing chances when he does but yesterday he was on point, still missing chances though.

A bit paradoxical that his link up play was poor when he could have got 3-5 goals off balls fed into him by other players. But yeah, there were many occasions where the link up was poor tbh.

Basically, it didn't click for him yesterday, so I'd love to see what happens when it does.

As has been said though, if he comes away with a return like last season then that's still pretty good going, even if not what it has previously been.

He's so difficult to stop, his power, pace and movement but defenders at sixes and sevens. I was glad that his overall game seemed an improvement on last season, even if his finishing on the day wasn't great.

Finishing aside he was back to his old self imo. He also did way more than Salah & Jota in terms of build up. Constantly dropping deep and collecting the ball, looking to make things happen.

It suits him more though...just need that chemistry with him, Jota & Salah to develop more.

Also I know it's been mentioned above somewhere but Elliott is the person that's given the midfield a new dimension this season. That movement he makes to the wide area, allowing Salah to come into the half space reminds me a lot of Gotze & Reus for Dortmund when Klopp was there. Sad about his injury though. Hope he bounces back better.

Yeah I like that little tweak and it allows Trent to come inside.

I was disappointed with Jota yesterday actually overall, didn't think he had the best of games and couldn't create that link that Firmino does with Mane and Salah either side. Yesterday shows how important Firmino is to linking that front 3 up.

I'm hoping potentially Jones can step into that midfield now and make it a little more dynamic, but I'm not sure how well it worked trying to integrate him, presumably on the left of the midfield) to work with Mane and Robertson.

Manes movement for that horrific miss was brilliant other than getting too far ahead of the ball maybe. Still finishable should be doing better even if slightly fast and behind him from Jota.

Mane was lively up until the end product he was great. All 3 of our front 3 enjoyed playing vs Leeds with their tight man for man marking, i think all 3 held up the ball rolled their man and generally got the better of them.

posted on 13/9/21

Jota lacked intensity and was a bit lackadaisical IMO. He didn't look like a guy fighting for his spot against Firmino. Firmino will be back soon to remind him.

posted on 13/9/21

I think it's pretty clear that whoever plays central for us gets less chances up top. I reckon Jota would have loved to have been on the left yesterday watching Mane.

I thought Jota was good. Good link up play. Created chances and excellent movement. Only criticism was the pass to Mane when he had a open goal was hit too hard and behind Mane,

Is James really on £250,000 a week at Everton?

Good grief.

Think I read that we are hoping Bobby will be back for Palace, he was back doing light training with the ball over the weekend.

With the open net Meslier actually does get a touch on the cross which just deflects it just behind Mane enough.

It was more the one and ones with the keeper he had where he took too long and then the second one where he ended up trying to pass it that baffled me.
