Looks like Mac Allister is pretty much done going by the reliable twitter folk. Personal terms agreed and we are looking to pay 70m.
That's the kind of player we needed today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Henderson this season and especially in the new system has been a frustrating watch. He was good for England which was annoying. Mac Allister in that role would be a big improvement.

Today had nothing to do with inverted? Perhaps you'd gone to the toilet when they scored their goal. Watch it again. It's happened time and again this season. Konate can't be rushing up and down our entire right side as if we don't need two CBs. At some points in first half they were overloading with three players in that area. Inverted right back looks a bit easy to figure out and stop to me. If we persist with this opponents will be licking their lips before they play us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For me today's result wasn't about tactics. It was more about a lack of tempo and players playing poorly and making the wrong decisions. Our passing was abysmal. Also the team persevered with out swinging corners which was driving me mad watching it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This may all be true but at the same time that doesn't mean we don't need to look closely at our right side.
Whether it’s worth sticking with or not is a pointless conversation at this stage, all depends who we sign.
We’ve just won seven in a row with this system, you just can’t demand they bin it just because of one loss, that’s just daft.

I don't mean to sound arrogant but Liverpool FC can win 7 games in a two playing any one of many formations. We've had a terrible season with goal after goal and panic stations coming from that area of the pitch.
You can't demand we keep this system just because of a few wins in a row in an overall terrible season. The world and his dog knows the right side is a big problem for us. They talk about it every single game.

I like Trent in midfield. His quick forward passing both short and long is fantastic and his form has been instrumental in our good run of form. He gives us an extra body in midfield playing as an inverted R. which has really helped the team.
The concern I have about him isn't so much positional, it's his attitude. He had a poor game today and I didn't like his body language at times. When he has a poor game he just mentally gives up. He needs to sort this out.
The question I have is if we persevere with this formation. Who plays there if Trent is out?
As I said, I don't think this system is defensively solid enough to stay the course and deliver glory. It can win games, but it won't take us to the promised land in my humble opinion.

City play a similar shape when in possession. However it's Stones who pushes into midfield which seems a more natural fit. They also have far better one one defenders to cover counters and transitions.

=====
One extra body in midfield is one less body in defence.
You can't just take out your right back and move him towards the middle, with your RCB covering for the gaping hole left by the regular absence of the RB
and not expect problems. Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know? The lad is clearly a midfielder in my eyes.

It’s more a case of having the right players for it though, and I doubt it’ll be a case of only playing that system and nothing else anyway.
We are still very direct, not properly keeping the ball to maintain our wide overloads to create chances.
I can't wait to have some technical midfielders who can progress the ball with care. The amount of times we hoofed the ball forward without any intricate passing and one touch football was dreadful. Secondly a DM who can win those second balls in midfield should be a priority.

I think it's sorted more problems than it has created. We just don't have the players with the energy to play the usual 4 3 3. We were so open at the back it was painful.
Whether we persevere with it next season is the big question. If not we need a new RB and a new midfielder or two new midfielders with Fab and Henderson dropping out.

Agreed. But still, I don't think that will stop teams from exploiting our right side. Perhaps it's a case of having the right players for it as Term says, but if I'm honest I don't feel like that's the case. Doesn't matter who we bring in, it won't stop teams floating the ball into that space and Konate scampering across and commiting a foul probably because he knows he just left a huge gap behind him and if the ball is crossed we are in sheet.

well yeah, do you not see villas high line? we did right going direct inbehind tbh. Issue was composure in mf and def and being outfought all over the pitch for opening 40 mins.
Another think points to mentality how we start games, how teams like villa come here all season and look like the home team with ambitions whilst we sit there watching va dijk sheit his pants hitting it out for throws soon as it gets to him like a prime ryan facking shawcross. wtfs happened to him, shell of his former self.

Player profiles is one thing but you still need a strategy to get the best out of them. Our pressing structure is still not up the standard of City.
There are still weaknesses how we press the opposition and the opposition can easily build up and cut through us. Even Mings could do his thing today and the guy is league one level on the ball.
