Seems strange to me that they’d make a ruling on long term contracts and they wouldn’t apply that to transfers made only 6 months ago for the purposes of FFP. Throwing Chelsea a bone I guess.

Because Chelsea did nothing wrong for those transfers, they conducted them with the rules in place at the time. You can’t retrospectively change the rules.

True but as it stands they’ll benefit over the duration of the assessment periods for the 8+ years of the contacts. They’ll be able to submit in a way no other club can.

Neither is ideal admittedly

so could just sign an extension 12 months after signing to end up with the same result?
