Matt Law from the telegraph is the only reliable journalist to say Chelsea have actually made an acceptable bid yet. Fabrizio has said the same but has clearly been paid off by Caicedos agent the whole way through this saga. Deafening silence from anyone reliable on our side.

Ben Jacobs has just confirmed we're still the only team to actually agree a fee for Caicedo.

I'm sure Chelsea will do it any minute now...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbh there must be a Chelsea bid there now but even if there isnt I’m bored of Brighton fvcking us around. I’d pull our bid at this point.

Player doesn’t want to join, Brighton aren’t playing ball so pull our bid and let Chelsea pay £20/30m less. Money means nothing to them anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No to that, for me. The player wants to give Chelsea first option since he spoke to them first. If Chelsea want him, they'll have to match our bid. If they can't, then Chelsea haven't taken up their option that Caicedo gave them and he feels no obligation to wait any longer.

Threatening to pull the bids doesn't work in our favour. It only works in Chelsea's favour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends how long this runs, a little bit of pressure on Brighton might be a good thing. If Caicedo does join Chelsea then we need to move to another option and we’ll be running short on time to identify the proper player.

Plus clubs will not want to sell so close to the window closing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn't put pressure on them from us, it puts pressure on them to accept Chelsea's lower bid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes so if we say we’re pulling our bid at midnight then they are under pressure to either force Chelsea out or accept Chelsea’s lower bid.

Which we don't want as they'll accept Chelsea's lower bid since that's the only bid on the table. Make them pay or pull out, don't make it easy for them, which is no benefit to Liverpool.

I’d threaten Brighton with pulling the bid at this point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why? Make chelsea facking pay every penny.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely this. It's about the only positive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn’t matter to them. The player probably isn’t coming to us either way. Brighton know that if we pull the bid, Chelsea will pay significantly less so it could be worth threatening to pull the bid so they can block the Chelsea deal. Might actually be the only way we sign him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I doubt at this stage that is pulling out will lower the price that Chelsea pay. It might affect the structure of the payment but they’ll still have to cough up the whole amount.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Liverpool pull out, Brighton have no option but to accept a lower bid. They won't be thinking about keeping the player at this stage. They want him gone now and the funds in good time to be able to strengthen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s all just guesswork at the moment, even journo’s don’t really know what’s going on. I don’t know Brighton’s financial position, whether they need to sell or it’s purely a case of the player (aka his agent) wanting the move. If they’re not in desperate need of money then Fred’s idea is right, we give Brighton until midnight when we’ll withdraw our offer, and Chelsea will have to put a firm bid in for the full amount or the player stays at Brighton. All depends on how ballsy they are.

Setting our own deadline might allow Brighton to go to caicedo and say it's Liverpool or you stay here cos Chelsea haven't stumped up

It's not about being in desperate need of money. They've already sold players and bought players for around the same amount. It's about them having time to use the Caicedo money. They want to sell now, Caicedo's camp is delaying this. If Liverpool out, they'll be forced to accept a lesser offer. As it stands the only reason they're waiting is because they have a higher offer, which the players camp have put on hold, waiting for Chelsea. They won't wait if they don't have that higher offer.

The only side it benefits is Chelsea and the players camp. Liverpool and Brighton both lose out. Which is why Liverpool haven't pulled out and why Brighton haven't rejected Liverpool's offer, despite all suggestions being the player prefers Chelsea. It's all a waiting game to see what Chelsea do.

The bit you’re missing from all that is that we have to give ourselves time to get another player in, and give the selling club enough time themselves to get a replacement.

As our Chelsea, hence the Adams and Lavia situations.

Although I don't really understand why Chelsea are so desperate for a defensive midfielder when their midfield is lacking creativity and goals and they've got Enzo.

posted on 13/8/23

If he doesn’t want to come play for us, then I see no point at all in making him.
Hopefully we’re lining up someone else, but just keeping the bid in with Brighton until last the possible moment to try and :
a) make Chelsea pay more and
b) disrupt the beginning of the season for them.

Even if he did sign for us, i suspect a lot of fans wouldn’t take him to heart right away because of all these mercenary type shenanigans that he/his agent are doing.

They haven’t had a clear plan for years now. It’s probably Poch’s influence that’s actually making them realise they actually need a structured approach to squad building. Not sure it’s getting through yet though.

You can actually see Poch going to the owners and saying he needs a DM for his midfield to function properly, so they say ‘no problem, we’ll get you three’.

I genuinely believe it’s down to his agent and he’s just a puppet, probably just like many African/South American players are.

He's a grown man, if he wanted to join us over Chelsea he would have. Just get over it. Like what is it about people supporting this club having a hard time believing that someone like Caicedo or Bellingham might want to join another club over Liverpool.

On the face of it, a draw away at Chelsea isn’t the worst result. But I don’t actually think this Chelsea side is that great so I’m actually pretty disappointed.

Bournemouth at home should be a good fixture to get our first home win. Until then, back to the transfer soap opera…
