£220m is an insane amount of money. Pretty incredible for the club to turn that down tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They'll be back next year with an amount that will still be insane for us. No rush or need to sell. He's so marketable and I wouldn't be surprised seeing world record fees, even next year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do completely agree with you. I think Saudi would pay even more than £220m for the best Arab player to ever play the game.
But still, £220m for a 31 year old!
Interesting interview from Hendo this morning!
Claims nobody at Liverpool wanted him to stay once the Saudi offer came.

Guess it's only 10 months until the Euros but can't see him getting into the team after they're over.

I'd say it's a fair bit better quality than that, but still surprised he's kept his place ahead of the likes of JWP.
Southgate us duper loyal though, may just be a send off for Hendo who I don't think has ever played Scotland.
Ok. I wonder if he will be wearing some kinda rainbow socks or something something similar when he plays against Scotland? or he left his hypocrisy to one side now..
Hadn't given it a seconds thought but if he normally does for England than I suspect he will again.

Haven't seen it but were those the words he used or the headline? From what Klopp said, nobody attempted to ask him to stay after being told what was on offer to him, which is obviously two different things.
He's said he wasn't forced out but not one person asked him to stay either, if they had done then he says he would have.
Weird one, I'm guessing Klopp decided to just let it be his decision after telling him he'd only be a squad player this year.

Players like Neves, Otavio and Brosovic have also been included in there respected Euros squads. Not many England midfielders are staking a claim. Maybe if Jones was fit he would have got a call up but Hendo is in there on merit.

Love Hendo but I'm not surprised no-one asked him to stay either, and it was before the Fabinho bid too if memory serves.
It's best all round really and the situation we're in now feels fresh and exciting, even if we could do with one or two more in.
If you think that's ruined his legacy you're made of cheap, happy shopper jelly.
Hasn't ruined his legacy but it's a very poor interview on his part it has to be said, some of his answers are terrible.
Would have been far better keeping quiet.

Yeah, he's under a bit of pressure because of the move. Allow him some leeway to defend himself. I have no problem with the club not wanting Hendo or Fab to stay. We usually don't want players past a certain age. Club must look out for itself just like the players do.
Very early days but letting Fab and Hendo go is starting to look like yet another brilliant decision and the club doing what they think will work, instead of what every Tom, Deek and Harry out there in social and media think will work.

We got great offers for old men. Hendo was regressing big time and the contract extension was a bit of a joke. Had the Salah bid been put in July or early August we would have accepted that too. 200m is too good to turn down even for a legend.

Yeah Klopp said when Henderson and Fabinho told him what they were being offered there was nothing he could do.
I think Henderson is being a bit tricky with his words. Nobody asked him to stay as they couldn't get close to a three year contract for a 33 year old over double his current salary. He was also told he would be playing less which was always going to be the case anyhow when Mac Allister was brought in.
It wasn't a case of asking him to stay, it was a case of leaving the decision up to him and for me he made the right choice at this stage of his career.
no1s gonna persuade him to turn down that money to stay, he was our captain but he wasn't gonna play every game evne if he could stay fit and at 32. Sounds like hes not really thought it through, thought he had a tad more intelligence than that tbf. That or he has thought it through and tryna make excuses for himself or feeling a need to justify throwing his previous beliefs out the window for money.
Think most are probably over thinking it a bit and suspect it was a fairly emotional interview for him.
Ask him the same questions on a year when he's had a bit of time to reflect.
In all honesty though, it's pretty inconsequential.
