Felt we deserve credit but also Emery took a huge risk, that high line vs us was asking for trouble. I said if he does this we'll cause them a lot of problems. Someone said Villas press was poor and not aggressive enough, think a team brave enough to press that high up is aggressive, sure they could have done better but it looked alright at times too.

Yeah, pass over the top was there all day long. Could have scored more goals.

Imagine spending like £160mn combined on two players for your right-wing and it's Antony and Sancho

Latter still absolutely has potential but he's apparently been at Utd for 3 years nearly!

I actually defended Antony in that game last night

MOTD Jenas did a good piece on him and i felt a bit for him today even though hes an utter showboating

Felt he worked hard for you lot today ontop of the stuff Jenas highlighted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I could work hard for them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he did a good job defensively, cut out a lot of stuff tracked his man etc. The stuff Jenas highlighted was him being in good positions isolating his man 1v1 but never receiving the ball despite screaming for it and being wide open etc.

Not sure what more he can do tbh in that game anyway. Hes had poor games and deserves criticism but this aint one of them imo.

everyone knows they got royally bent over by ajax for him, hardly his fault hes simply not worth that but utd were desperate and ajax took advantage.

ive jynxed the fack out of him too putting him in my ff draft

The sancho saga surprises me, his dortmund days hes prob worth that 70 odd mill in this market. 400k a week and what theyve gotten from him must hurt a lot. Idk whats gone on there but i think its to do with mentality and attitude etc too. He strikes me as a Dembele type or Bale at the end of his career.

villa last season didnt let trent get on the ball, didnt seem to bother this time

If Sancho had joined us when he joined United, I think we'd have a world beater on our hands. Think the same about Werner.

yh warnock said on motd their press forced the ball to trent

posted on 4/9/23

personally i like to think they couldnt just focus on trent, we've got far too much in midfield now in szobo and AMA.

Also trent picking up the cb position, no1 wants to mark a cb out of the game

guess we'll find over the next several

I remember when Rashford was absolutely woeful and I took some stick for saying that he'd be a superstar under Klopp.

Gomez was outstanding, was really impressed with how our cbs handled a handful in watkins. Robbo first half won absolutely everything too. Think setting that market down early doors knocked some of the fight out of villa early on along with the early goal.

He didn't lose the ball and he won it a few times too, but he also didn't do anything with it either.

Very frustrating player and you feel he'll never escape that huge price tag

FSG would never pay those wages, they'd ask you what you were smoking, and that's why we have never been in such a situation and doing well as a club

Gomez was class all game. I remember only one mistake. We certainly didn't miss VVD or Konate this game.

The slip? he did so well initially then ran past the ball and fell over or w.e. Thats the only one i remember.

If we are swapping Trent and the RCB, surely that is a ready made role for Gomez? Can't believe he's been here 8 years.

posted on 4/9/23

He was so aggressive and confident. Gomez has all the tools when hes up for it like that hes some player. Issue is consistency with that and injuries. Obv they go hand in hand too, its hard to get confidence and consistency when injuries interrupt.

He's seems to be performing well as the LCB right now though. Reminds me that he initially played as the LB when he first signed, maybe it's his preference

Thought Gomez got away with one at the weekend.

His general play isn't the issue, it's that he will generally make one big mistake per game. Still, as fourth choice there are still not many better as we saw with Utd at the weekend.

so did trent though that pass back to alisson. Gomez defended well initially and was a bit unlucky falling over but it was one of villas best chances for sure. He had a lot of mistakes last season for us yeah, would need to cut them out of his game if he wants to cement a spot (if he can stay fit)

posted on 4/9/23

i'd take the odd mistake if hes dominating games and forwards like that though.
