Also all our players coming back from injury after the international break should be the opposite of when we ran out of gas in the 21/22 quad chase.
They’ve had plenty of rest over the last few weeks obviously being injured. So should be raring to go soon, just need to get them up to match fitness.

I don't see it personally. Lots of talented players at that age too. Most end up doing fack all. I'd get it if he was putting in stellar performances every week but I feel he's literally done nothing and showed nothing special so far. If he wasn't at United he wouldn't get this call up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with the last comment. If he played for (say) Brentford, he's not getting called up. But that's always been the case, there is big club bias with England.
That said, I don't agree he's done nothing. In this very short career he's come into a team in poor form and under huge pressure. He's been a calm influence in midfield, wants possession and takes care of the ball. Has quick feet, he can beat a man for sure, and has a shot on him.
He's nowhere near the finished article obviously and it probably is too soon for an England call but for me, the talent is very clearly there.
Mainoo looks pretty good and I can see why he has been called up, he does look like the kind of player England have been missing in midfield.
At the same time, I think its harsh on the likes of Elliott who have been tearing it up for the U21s that Mainoo has been called up ahead of them.
There is definitely a bit of a media/social media drive surrounding it I would admit as well.
Man Utd fans, particularly the younger ones, will wet their panties at the slightest bit of midfield good play. I guess that is what happens when you have been subjected to watching McTominay and Fred in midfield for a number of years.
I remember a lot of their fans bigging up Fred for a period too, despite all of us knowing he was crap, hence they got rid of him.

I do agree that it's harsh on Elliott but I think it's a question of positioning. From what I can see of KM he's a 6/8 type player. Elliott is most definitely a 8/10 player and in that position he's probably up against Bellingham, Maddison, Palmer, Foden (although the last two could probably play wide as well).
Tbh, given the competition I don't see Elliott getting in the squad regularly until he's nailed a starting place in our team. Atm I'd say he's probably behind AMA (if Endo starts), Szobo, Jones and probably Grav too.
Mainoo is talented but has been so overhyped. Like against us he had a good first 20 mins and then after that he was gasing. He ran too much in the first 20 mins. That will improve with experience but he is not ready for England. Better midfields will expose him.
United fans have already compared him to Seedorf and Pirlo
I think there's actually half a chance he starts for England in the summer. Simply because we need a partner for Rice if you want to release Bellingham to influence further up the pitch.
Who is the competition? Henderson who is so far gone at this point it would be silly, JW-P has hardly featured in squads, Barkley is a (good) late shout but Southgate doesn't seem inclined to look at him or Conor Gallagher, great engine admittedly but not an automatic pick.
The other option would be to play JB deeper to allow Foden the no.10 role but that feels waaaaay too attacking for Southgate.
Mainoo genuinely may start.

True. A good, injury free season and Jones would arguably have been in pole position.
If you are playing alongside Bellingham, Rice and Foden up against Onana and Tielemans, I would imagine a lot of players would have impressed last night in that role.
oh and Tielemans scored twice
I imagine Mainoo will become a good player in time but it's odd to me how much he gets praised right now given he's a midfielder playing in a side that regularly lose the midfield battle.
Also just seen Lavia is now out for the season after playing all of 32 minutes so far.
We dodged a massive bullet there didn't we?
Mainoo has been overhyped.
He was forward thinking, drove forward well but more often than not then lost the ball.
Defensively he was caught out of position (especially on the second goal)
I’d sooner play Trent who at least provides an attacking threat with his passing range

I guess the argument United fans have come up with in response to that is that the rest of the team are crap, but you have to say he is part of that problem. Even Luton outplayed them in midfield, which is not normal at all.

On the basis of what we've seen so far, two massive bullets.
So internationals out of the way, not that our games mattered
Routine win Sunday? I’m going for 2-0
What do we want in the other game? I assume a draw but if there has to be a winner who you want?

Their luck has indeed been something else this year, does make me wonder if it’s just going to happen that they win it.
I'm not sure what result works before for us but hopefully there's some minor inconveniences that come from it, like key personnel from both teams (and managers) have diarrhoea leading to missed games
