Have you not seen Twins?

That’s us

Hoody de Vito?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This has not worked how I hoped
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fred is definitely De Vito. So are you massive, Robbing?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What a question! This will have Irish very interested...

Knew someone would be smutty

Happy to oblige. I'm blessed with natural immaturity.

Fvcking bored. Why couldn’t we beat Atalanta and give me a game to watch this week

New kit getting announced instead tomorrow

posted on 2/5/24

I know this is WSL but we have another example of a manager announcing midway into the season that they are leaving and it impacting the team. Chelsea normally clean up WSL but are going to end troohyless.

Do you really think Klopp announcing he’s leaving had a negative effect? If anything I’d say it had a positive impact.

For me it has an initial galvanising effect but also caused us to completely run out of steam.

Just playing Devils advocate here, but how can that have us run out of steam. I mean, is that actually based on anything? Like at all?

Imo we bottled it a bit and we’re shiiiiiiit in both boxes for a few games and that’s about it.

Saying it’s about Klopp smacks of tin foil hat really.

We saw the games, we created enough chances and didn’t stop enough of the oppositions. That’s simply football, surely?

posted on 2/5/24

Do think it had a mild effect of players perhaps panicking more than they usually would because they're more desperate to win.

But then I also don't think we smash January and Feb like we did without the announcement.

I was just looking at examples. Has there been a team that still wins when manager announces early he is leaving? Even Fergie tried it and they lost the title that year. This is the narrative that is being thrown whether we like it or not..

posted on 2/5/24

I honestly don’t know tbf but I imagine the sample size is absolutely minuscule.

Personally I couldn’t give a shiiiiiiit about narrative, especially is narrative actually means online fans and red tops.

Team that we thought at best would finish third, finishes third shocker.

They won the league that year wasn’t it the Van Persie season?

Nah he tried to retire before that season and then reversed his decision

Because we spent most of the season with half the squad out and injured, meaning players that wouldn’t normally be big players for us have had to put in way more minutes than they otherwise would have.

You can clearly see the amount of emotion we’ve always played with under Klopp and that’s been especially evident this year. More than any other team in the league we seem to ride on emotion (comes from having such an expressive manager).

I think as others said this was the reason we were so good in the aftermath of the announcement but have simply run out of energy, both mentally and physically as the season has come to an end.

I don’t think we’ve bottled it at all tbh, you can just see the players have nothing left to give, Klopp too for that matter.

posted on 2/5/24

Depends on your definition of bottling I guess.

For me it’s not playing to your normal levels when under pressure, which seems pretty evident to me.

I mean last year, which was worse, and Klopp hadn’t announced anything, it was simply that we were not good enough so I’m not sure this narrative has much validity really and smacks of over thinking it.

I think it’s really odd to dismiss the idea of Klopp leaving eventually having a detrimental effect on the team. I think Fred just about has it right, it galvanised the team initially but later on started wearing them down. It’s human nature.

I’m not dismissing it, I’m just asking what it’s actually based on.

If you look at the actual games I don’t think it’s based on anything at all? Did we run less? Did we create less chances? Did we concede less chances? Did we have less possession?

The answer to all of those questions is “No”.

The sample size is very small but Fergie's initial announcement of retiring saw a negative impact on the team. I think he's even said in interviews that it was a mistake.

When Wenger announced he was leaving Arsenal finished lower than they ever had before under him.

I don't really know why it's a 'thing' but it seems to be one. At the very least I'd say it's definitely a distraction.

posted on 2/5/24

It's a mental thing that can't be quantified imo

posted on 2/5/24

Maybe I guess. Maybe the crowd contributed too.

I’m still just going for being a bit shiiiiiit in both boxes for a few games when under pressure personally.

Pressure felt from trying to win it all in Klopp's last season

posted on 2/5/24

So what happened when we tried to win all four annd failed every other season?
