Sounds like bull but apparently Gomez wants to leave. He has lost his CB spot to Quansah but played really well for us at left back. Think he will wait for the new manager.

I’d sell

I'd keep solely on the basis I'd sell Tsimikas and Matip is presumably moving on. Ideally don't want to be buying 2 CBs and a LB in one window when we already need positions elsewhere.

Although won't blame him if he wants first team football and we'd get a decent fee.

I would'nt like too much squad turnover seeing as we have no idea how Slot is going to handle things but Klopp also brought in Van Dijk, Robertson and Trent into our defence around the same time so it can be done.

No, not really, I just don’t think Klopp announcing he is leaving is the reason we’ve only won one trophy and finished third.

If I had to push it I’d say that saying it is, is a massive cop out for the players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I wouldn't say it's a cop out for the players, ultimately it's the players that have let relative uncertainty, lack of long term commitment from leadership and personal concerns over their future impact their performance.

It shows mental fragility but it's not uncommon. The Utd and Arsenal examples have already been given. In Pep's last season, it was apparently known in the Barca squad (who were league and CL champs) and they lost the league to RM and went out in the CL semis.

Perhaps all of those teams bottled it. Or perhaps there is an impact of very successful managers announcing they're leaving. I get it as well to a certain extent, the likes of AMA, Gravs, Nunez, Szobo - they all joined thinking they were joining Klopp's Liverpool. Others that have been Klopp favourites wondering whether they'll still be important players going forward.

Obviously as fans we'd love them to focus on the here and now. The next game. They're human too though and I think these doubts are natural, and we all know how important confidence is in professional sport.

Gomez on excels at left back for me. Not a good CB and at right back he struggles with position and attacking play. I think we do need to sell Tsimikas but I would still like us to buy a Robinson/Ait Noori to take Robbo's place in the team.

We do need Gomez for his versatility and passport.

This will be my last post on it but if anything I think we’ve probably got 4-6 points more from his announcement. Those late points that we kept getting Nov - Feb may just as easily have been because they’re trying harder.

I don’t think Atalanta is any barometer either, as has been suggested, I watched us getting spanked by Napoli a few times who have very similar tactics.

Ultimately, I think it’s all just a bit made up and I’m unsure what the detriment actually is. Would we have finished second? Would we have won it? Who knows but the most obvious answer is normally the right one, and that’s simply this squad isn’t at a stage where it can compete for major honour and Id list losing big players with huge experience a far bigger factor.

We’ve seen serious dips in form multiple times under Klopp and as such I feel people are putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 28. Either way it’s not me pushing the narrative is it.

Probably worth adding that we’ve been mince in every big game this season really, pre and post announcement.

Gomez stock wont ever be higher than it is now and he wont perform better than hes done this season. Wouldnt be against selling if the offers decent. I think he did a good job most the season but i dont think hes anything more than a useful squad player. Hg can play a fee positions but not that talented. First time in 9 years or so with us hes been relatively injury free.

Spurs conceded another set piece goal tonight, their 17th for the season I believe.

I look forward to us not troubling them on the weekend

Surprised at the discussion here about klopp going causing us to fall off. At the start of the season basically nobody had us challenging for the title and many doubted our ability to get top 4. We've done the latter at a canter and been right in for the title throughout. Throw in a handful of the worst referee decisions in big key games and we could still be right there. Massive improvement this season so hard to suggest any other events have lessened us

We're usually strong finishers to the season and the league has been in our hands. I think it's reasonable to wonder what impact Klopp leaving has had on the team, it's strange for the team form to drop so much - usually only happens to us when we have key injuries but this time, it happened when we had more or less a full squad.

That said I do just think the team seem knackered from overperforming for so much of the season

Yeah we just fell off a cliff after than United game...

And yes we have over performed this season when you take into consideration last season, the amount of new faces, catastrophic injuries and the impact of klopp's departure..

I'm not usually one to use this phrase and I don't think I have used it before about any team but I can't help but think the players bottled it.

In many of the fixtures during this poor run we actually played better than fixtures we were picking up points in. Finishing dropped to absolutely ridiculous levels.

I do think there is a small element of Klopp leaving having an impact when the chips were down, with Salah's strop being an example, with him knowing Klopp is leaving. I don't think he acts that way if Klopp is staying. However overall, taking the season as a whole I don't think there was an impact either way.

If we're honest we had several warnings throughout the season that missed chances were gonna cost us but won the games, until it did cost us, then the players kind of lost that fight to the end and pull through mentality.

It's not all doom and gloom however, the new players have slotted in and the team has improved on last season. Unfortunately I feel like another couple of signings would have galvanised the squad for next season under Klopp but we now have added uncertainty due to a new manager coming in. Difficult to therefore have an opinion on how it will look next season.

One thing is for sure, we need to hit the ground running and stop wasting hosts of chances.

Yep agree with all of this, fair summary and I would agree we've let it slip the last month which is a real shame

If Slot wants to control games a bit more that should hopefully translate to fewer injuries going forwards. I mean we can't ignore two seasons which were effectively written-off due to the number of injuries. We avoided a collapse this year but it could easily have been the same if the youth didn't step-in

the fact these tv companies have the power to decide when teams play is disgusting. Hes bang on, the sooner they become a partner of football and not a squeezer and realise football pays their wages not them paying footballs the better the English game will be and the better in Europe English sides will be.
