City's hearing to begin on Monday. Here we go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone follow reputable journos on it? Whats the feeling? The prem confident? Theyve lost a few havent they? couldnt do anything but react with late changes to stop Chelsea abusing long contracts. Didnt they recently lose a case tryna punish lesta?

Im expect City will get away with most the charges, and they'll have done so certain that'd be the case. Hopefully they get some stuff to stick though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Prem can't lose this one. Would be the biggest insult to their organisation.

I’m really not expecting much to come of the trial. Despite the charges I just think it’s easier for the EPL to turn a blind eye than admit that league credibility has been compromised and they could do nothing about it for a decade.

Maybe a fine. But I actually think City will walk away untouched.

Then why charge them in the first place only to face the embarrassment of losing the case? Why not just ignore them and not charge them at all?

Personally don't see how they walk away untouched, like when it comes to failure to cooperate with authorities, that's black and white. They either did it or didn't. CAS said City didn't cooperate with the investigation but couldn't do anything because of time limitation. Who knows what the PL will find.

If they lose surely they will have to double down and clamp down harder so it cannot happen again in the future. Either that or scrap the entire ffp sheit as it is its anti-competitive and has not worked anyway. Theres better ways to encourage competition whilst safeguarding clubs surely? The sportswashing state owned things clearly an issue though.

After the German website published the leaked stories, there needed to be a definitive resolution imo. CAS didn’t really do that because of the time limitations. So I think it needed to be resolved one way or the other - hench the charges.

Perhaps I’ll be surprised but the cynic in me thinks the EPL would be happy to put it to bed and City be exonerated.

That's very possible but would be extremely embarrassing for the EPL. They have also punished other clubs, would be hilarious if they can't nail the grand daddy of football doping.

It is also said they charged City as a step to look competent and avoid an independent regulator which the previous govt wanted to install. Things might have changed by now and perhaps they have less incentive to nail City.

I wonder what the rationale would be this time though. CAS relied on limitation of time failing which City would have been screwed. That cannot be used anymore so I wonder what kind of mental gymnastics they will come out with to justify letting City go free or with a slap on the wrist.

City should be found guilty but quite honestly I expect them to outmanoeuvre the useless PL every step of the way so I see nothing sticking.

If there is a points deduction come April then we need to be there. They did it last season with clubs but maybe for a title they might save the deduction for the following season.

I don't know how I'd feel about a title due to points deduction. Obviously I'd rather it were us than Arsenal but not sure it would mean as much as the 19/20 title.

It won't but it will be another title after being cheated previously

Even 19/20 we literally destroyed the entire league and was out of sight by January...but then covid hit

Never feels like we get the credit we deserve for our title winning season

posted on 13/9/24

Yep it was actually City who won the COVID title the year after after we blitz the title before COVID.

One thing though we had to live with Adrians disaster class against Atletico Madrid which forced a global lockdown.

posted on 13/9/24

And even with covid we still won the title with the most remaining games, in PL history

posted on 13/9/24

And even with the Watford loss we were well on course to beat Chelsea's record for goals conceded and I have no doubt that if it wasn't for covid we would've smashed 100 points

posted on 13/9/24

Yeah not overtaking City's 100 was a little annoying. That home draw against Burnley when we had a clear pen denied too would have given us 101 points.
