Hughes is absolutely stealing a living. He makes Naby Keita look like employee of the year in comparison.

Quite amazing we signed him with Hughes in place to be honest, did Chiesa type up his own contract?

I don't really understand the preoccupation with Richard Hughes.

My organisation has a Chief Transformation Officer, I don't really understand what he's does but I don't necessarily think he should lose his job because I don't know his role or objectives.

The majority of my team probably don't know what I do. Doesn't mean I should be sacked. Given the amount of time I spend on this thread, arguably I should be but that's coincidence.

He’s literally in charge of transfers and contract renewals.

Was chatting to a mate about this, I think Hughes/Edwards etc are getting ready for a hard reset to lower the wage bill.

Guessing that means Salah at least won't be offered a new contract. Might be some truth in the last season talk he's been saying recently

Hope I'm wrong

His role is obviously, he’s a sporting director so would manage contracts and transfers. With that in mind, he’s entirely failed.

If I had to guess I’d say VVD is the only one staying, and I’m even losing faith in that. Can’t imagine it’s great for the squad in general right now tbh.

I flagged this after the Mane, Firmino and Salah contract sh!tahows two years ago. That’s not an I told you so, but rather if I/we can see it coming, then so could they.

If they all walk, Hughes should go too imo.

Our wages is crazy because we're made to believe the players' salaries are heavily incentivised but the seasons we finished outside the CL, you never saw that much of a drop in our salaries. So the only other explanation I can think of is that each player achieved their personal targets set on their contracts to achieve said bonuses but somehow the team still underperformed

Because our highest earner gets about £350k a week before bonuses. We know he reaches his targets so we're looking at about £26m a year with him.

Then you're probably looking at Alisson, Van Dijk and maybe Trent for other players where there's a possibility of them reaching their targets for full bonuses.

£300m plus a year, every year since 2019 I think

I’ll say again that we will see massive transition in the summer. Very interested to see what Slot can do to build his own team.

It won’t be him who decides if they stay or go. Surely that’s pretty obvious?

I’m not sure our wage bill is THAT big really. We did announce a small pre-tax loss in the last accounts, but that was expected after finishing 5th.

We’re the 4th richest club on the planet. We rank 13th in wage bill rankings.

I can count on one finger the amount of times a major reset has resulted in an actual improvement. Slot will have two years left on his contract and we have a sporting director who so far has been a demonstrable failure.

We’d do well to sign one world class player this summer, let alone three or four.

Maybe it’s good in the long term but throw in absolutely terrible communication with the support, then I can’t say I’m too impressed tbh.

The absolute lack of communication from the club to the fans about the lack of movement over three beloved players has been poor.

Tbh it’s been a while since the club was run brilliantly, Schmadtke wasn’t exactly a success either. Julian Ward left after a really short period, Zubimendi, Lavia, Caicedo were all pretty embarrassing.

They are superb at picking managers though.

posted 3 hours, 12 minutes ago

7th highest wage bill in the world actually. Behind City and Chelsea in the league. Then Real, Barca, Bayern and PSG in Europe

posted 3 hours, 12 minutes ago

Schmadtke looks like fvcking Raiola and Mendes incarnate compared to Hughes so far.

Oh yeah I know that, I just meant it won’t be Hughes who sets the budgets. And it won’t necessarily be from the clubs side with regards to Trent.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends how you define richest I guess. The Deloitte report is generally considered to be reliable and for 2023 they have us as 7th highest revenue.

They also show a wages/revenue of 63%; in terms of value that ties in with 90 min report saying we have the 5th highest wage bill in european football.

So not 4th and 13th, but 7th and 5th. Paints a different picture.

Im really starting to sweat on the out of contract players...

Trent Im not so worried about, but VVD and Salah need 2/3 year deals ASAP

Since then Klopp who was on a serious wage has left as has his team. Slot and his team are on much less.

High earners like Thiago and Matip also left.

posted 2 hours, 49 minutes ago

Is it that different a picture? No.

We’re not exactly in the mire are we. Top five revenue, top five operating income, year on year growth, back in the CL, lower wage bill than last year… we even made a net profit in the transfer market this summer.

We’re minted. Still, we could be even more minted if we bin off our Captain, Vice Captain and best player. Joy.
