Buying moreno would put us in a similar situation.to arbeloa, one.good season and Madrid or barca come in and he's gone, then you are looking at more defensive upheaval to replace them.

I don't think English players are destined to stay at any club for 15 years anymore.

Simply too much money in it for them and their agents to move.

There will be exceptions of course but don't assume we will keep a player for ages just because they are English.

Think we need players who have played in the CL. Who in our squad have played CL?

Johnson - Played in our disastrous final season in CL
Agger - Has good experience but will he stay or play?
Sakho/Skrtel - Hardly played for PSG and Liverpool in CL
Gerrard - Proven experience
Lucas - Has done ok but will he stay or go?
Stturidge - Hardly played for Chelsea
Suarez - Played for a poor Ajax side that never went beyond group stages.

British isn't.a requirement for me, I'd love sanchez or shaqiri, but what I do realise is competing for CL is a few years away, and that we have qualified for CL a year earlier than the fsg plan, that means we are two transfer windows behind the squad levels in their business plan.

We don't want to bring too many new players in and upset the team balance, so we will have to rely on some players we loaned out last season too.

Even so we don't have the squad to compete on multiple fronts and should prioritise the prem and use the CL this season as a learning curve.

With that in mind, getting a CL spot next season is top priority, over all else. And for that prem ready defenders are a top priority.

We need to regularly get in to the CL.before we have a chance of winning it. So CL experience is not the priority here.

It's a.squad capable of challenging for the top 3 spots in the league year after year, shaw drops straight in, moreno needs to adjust to the league, picking up the cream of English teams served united well for many years, and us before them too!!

Even if shaw doesn't still around till he's 33 (based on.Cole situation) we won't sell to rival teams in this league so he would have to go abroad, and English players don't.often do that.

The stability would make him worth paying double for.

I don't.see him regressing, you may get.him "stalling" and struggling to kick on for.6 months or so like most kids (flanno, raheem, currently ibe). We can equally ask what if we pay 15 for moreno and he does not make it? Shaw would still have the higher resale value.

I'm not sure how my posy was ifs and buts? Yours is. Mine merely states we are ahead of schedule and that compresses our time scales for.squad.reinforcement, i would rather our players hit.the ground running than spent 12 months adjusting to a faster league.
