I am the only one who was fascinated by Cohle's nihilistic ramblings on True Detective. That guy was a downer if there was ever one!

An Emmy-worthy performance from McConaughey. Imagine going on a day long car journey with him.

"The Hamsterdam series slightly annoyed me, due to the plausibility factor"
Wow, explain!! That was one of the most important bits of the whole series.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was just that I found it took a teeny bit of a stretch of imagination for me to process that story line. Don't get me wrong, I know it was central to the plot, and I enjoyed the story, but just felt that it was a little unlikely that such a situation would play out the way it did. I'm sure there is some real life precedent to disprove me, but with the rest of the show so completely 'real' feeling, it just didn't quite ring true to me. It doesn't take away from this being an amazing series though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I get you although I do believe it is still a very feasible thing. The idea of a cop just getting tired of the whole depressing cycle of cops hitting corners, shaking up the dealers the find there everyday yet the crime in the city stays the same. At the end of the series, you just had to feel how depressing it can be to be a cop in Baltimore. Remember they even ended it with a scene of cops shaking up dealers in a corner?
Can't watch Luther without seeing Stringer Bell.

One of the things that bothers me is how zombies, a central element of the show which drove the plot, has been reduced to pretty much an annoyance. A side show. They're not as terrifying as they used to be.
Unless they evolve, somewhat, become faster and learn to organize etc would be a lot more interesting
Just googled 'The Corner' On my to-get list now

Can't watch Luther without seeing Stringer Bell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of Stringer Bell, I ran into him once in a sainsburys store in Richmond. Shook his hand but unfortunately was in a rush and couldn't take a photo. Found out later his wife was in hospital having a baby. Explained why he looked dishevelled and tired.
Wumpatrol... I'm hoping you can accept my apology. I'm trying to turn over a new leaf as a poster and I'd really to start afresh.
I like it the way it is tbh.
Who do you think they'll kill off next season?
The reason season 2 differs is because David Simon wanted to create a show that focuses on Urban America's struggle and how the war on Drugs is failing.
So if you look at the Wire it has no main character like say Tony Soprano or Walter White. In the Wire Baltimore is the character which simulates Urban America.
Season 1 = The war on drugs and how it's failing on both sides.
Season 2 = The Docks, the importation of illegal substances / people etc. into America.
Season 3 = The Political game
Season 4 = Education and looks at how the issues an American city faces are not being delt with hence they affect each generation.
Season 5 = The News paper, they dying form of Media (and was also a personal thing for Simon as he was a journalist)
So you've 5 major issues every large American city faces. (some won't have Docks but they all import illegal stuff). Simon wanted, through television narrative to hold a mirror up to urban America and show how the current format is failing everyone on all sides.
The cops don't have enough funding and focus on the wrong things "Drugs on the Table"
The Education system is failing kids hence the high levels of dropouts, also not enough funding and again focusing on the wrong things in thsi case it's about test scores not the kids themselves.
Also the issues not being delt with affect generation after generation, so you've got Bubbles, he eventually gets off the dope and the streets but he's replaced by That dirty kid, can't remember his name, he begins the life Bubbles has led when Bubbles finally gets out.
Also Michael is the new Omar, one dies but there is always another to replace him.
The original corner boys Poot, wallace and Bodie are all moved on but Michale and his gang are now running the corners.
Avon goes to prison Malrow comes along.
Carcetti preaches change and reform but ultimatley goes off to follow his own political career and the balck lady becomes Mayor and it's back to the same issues the city faced under the mayor Carcetti beat in the election.
Without reform and change America will continue to struggle, that's the message the TV show puts out and was Simon's intention. The fact that he got an ex cop to help write it just make sit far more realistic, he also had reformed dealers etc. as advisors on the show to add to the realism of the language used, how drugs were imported, delt and stashed.
All I can really say is The Wire is the Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
