The Wire

A very underrated show was Southland. It isn't quite the Wire but is far better than I thought it was gonna be.

Who knew Ryan from the O.C could turn out to be a good actor? That role got him into Gotham.

Wum I will go back to it. . I expect it'll be the show to fill the void left after Hannibal and GOT finish.

I've heard people who like Breaking Bad like it, so I reckon I would...if I'm patient enough.

The thing about Breaking Bad is I actually almost gave up on it after the first two seasons but after you watch the whole thing you actually realize their significance and appreciate them a lot more.

I remember getting the first season for christmas a few years ago after reading some of the reviews it got and feeling disappointed after the first episode, by the end of the season I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen.

The premise for Breaking Bad didn't sound that interesting but I went with it and got hooked pretty soon on. It's hard to see how people couldn't to be honest.

Good to hear

Kneerash summed it up perfectly earlier for me. The wire is full of great characters, but the most important one is Baltimore itself.

The only part I really didn't like was Mcnultys storyline in the final series. That series is worth it just for the last twenty minutes though.

Reason #636 to avoid the Daily Mail website.

They posted a 'spoiler alert' for this weeks Game of Thrones but put a very obvious picture of the spoiler in the thumbnail for the article.

My stupid roommate thought it was already over with like 30min to go and was already going to sleep I think that was after the fake wake.

Right, downloading the first season of The Wire now

Wumpatrol,

Get the books, especially homicide: life on the killing streets. Some of the characters in the wire (well, most of them) are based on real life counterparts. I read that book a couple of years before the wire and it was still on my mind when the tv show came out. You'll love it.

These articles always pop up once in a while...

But for the record, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are the GOAT.

The first few episodes of The Wire are not engrossing at all - too 'typical' for me - same routine of dodgy cops, drug deals going bad...

The Sopranos... are such unlikeable s in the end

Got up to the end of Season 3 of The Walking Dead - turned off as it became Eastenders.. changed from zombie threat to human threat one of the prominent (if annoying) characters had a stupidly frustrating death!

Kamran,

As others have said, give it til episode 3 or 4, that's where it hooks you. Same in each season to be honest!

Alright, got nothing to do today so I'll probably watch quite a few episodes if I like it

I've been reading the Walking Dead comics since 2005 and it's always been about the human threat rather than (just) the zombie threat.

It's a shame you stopped at season 3 as it got a lot better with a new showrunner in series 4.

Give it more of a chance! Season 5 in October is due to be amazing.

I really want to get them but I don't think I can find them in a bookshop in Nairobi unfortunately So many books I would love to read but I just can't access them from here

Ebook?

There's got to be a decent bookshop in Nairobi somewhere, surely?

I also stopped watching The Walking Dead after Sn2 but now that it seems that I have run out of great TV shows, I will pick it up again.

Because Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are streaming with likable characters, besides unlikable characters don't necessarily make a bad show.

BTW anyone here watch Deadwood? Also from HBO with absolutely stunning dialogue. Watch out for Al Swearengen, top 3 TV characters of all time for me! I have only watched sn1 and I can't wait to get my hands on Sn2 and 3 now!

Not really, they just have the typical stuff unfortunately. Very hard to get a decent book. I am also a bit old school and find e-books to be a bit tedious unfortunately.

#Robb I don't disagree with you - the zombie threat can only go so far... but too many frustrating things happen and most characters are just not likeable!
