I'll choose what I post and when, but thanks for your idiotic input.

94 for me. Brazil were outstanding to watch.

There seems to be three different criteria...
1) Football fans choosing the highest quality tournaments full of the best games and most excitement.

2) Engand fans who judge a WC on how well England do, no matter how shît the actual tournament was.

3) U9880

Winston - I'll respond once only to you as otherwise I'll just be sinking to the same level but nobody comes on here to read two silly little boys having pathetic little playground arguments. It's not the place to do it. The irony in your reply is quite something but thanks for backing up my point. I have a feeling that anything you retort with now will just further my argument but obviously that's how you like to spend your time so be my guest.

Being able to watch it pretty impartial helped

Kempes
Gemmil's goal
Arie Haan's screamers

Players like Platini, Rummenigge, Rossi, Dalglish and the brilliant Dutch side on display

It was the tikatape that made it though

Couldn't resist, could you?

The idea that your comment would do anything other than provoke an exchange exactly of the type that you're complaining about is laughable.

Go away and have a think about it, you hypocritical fool.

West Germany. 1974, the emergence of total football. Johan. Cruyff proving he was truly world class and the birth of the cruyff turn. I am still in awe of that moment forty years later

Watching Maradona was always a privilege.

My choice for the greatest ever player, every time.

Didn't like him, but boy was he immense.

Macca,

Do you remember that Cubillas free-kick against the Scots, were he bent it round the wall with the outside of his boot?

Seen nothing like it since.

Gemmil, what a goal, what a talented Scottish side that was. Underachieved in that era.

Well worth another look!

Actually felt for them in that World Cup, a great shame though when you look at the talent available to the Scots back then & the dross they've been serving up for years now.

Mexico 86 for me.

The first World Cup I can remember and as an eight year old kid it all seemed so alien and far away compared to The Big Match on Sunday afternoon's.

Memorable games such as France v Brazil, Rats scoring against Bats (USSR v France), a truly amazing individual performance through the tournament by Maradona.

Maybe the fact it was my first World Cup which makes it magical but for me everything about it was great.

Wasn't it just a variation of Garrincha's Banana shot?

94 for me.

Staying up late at 13 to watch Bulgaria and Romania produce some shocks against the big guns.

Shame the two finalists were relatively dull sides.

I barely remember 1990, just a few flashes of England, but I'd rate the World Cups I've seen as follows:

1994 - 6/10, though don't remember watching too many matches

1998 - 8/10

2002 - 6/10

2006 - 5/10

2010 - 1/10 - awful World Cup and the vuvezelas made watching and listening unbearable

2014 - so far 8/10, been very good

posted on 17/6/14

2006 was good... i think theres a big reason nobody is rating this one

2010 was god awful. it was simply ruined by the pitches and footballs
