Scholes did manage to get into 2 PL team of the seasons, and also made it into the premier league team of the decade from 1992/93-2002/3

Yeah but Aaron Lennon won 'moment of the year' in 2009

No because the only one I can think of is west ham FA cup final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah well you could have put the CL final in as well. Why don't you list scholes's? We could then put pauls prem team of the year selections, UEFA team of the year entries, fans player of the year, PFA player of the year and writers awards alongside each other and had a look at that.

Oh.

Scholes is the sort of player that controls a game. He could control a football match that gerrard could only dream of. Gerrard yes likes the Hollywood passes and is further up the field and scored more which gets more recognition. However scholesy could mix it with the very best something I don't think gerrard could. Keane and scholes used to dominate Stevie

I'm surprised no the United fans have brought out the famous "Scholes is great" quotes from other players

We don't need to, we know he was better than Gerrard

Don't think we need to. We all know all the greats in the game think very highly of scholes

Gerrard was a top player. But him winning the final for Liverpool has added gloss to his ability. He was never near the level of the likes of Kaka for example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree in part but I think "no-where near" is erroneous to say the least. There are other qualities to the game other than the ability to manipulate a football but I get that people who's not been coaches, etc, don't get this.

May I just say that every one of those players listed was quality. Great attitudes, gifted, hard working leaders who each excelled at one thing or another and the length of their careers is testament to that.

Everton FC and their fans have Stockholm syndrome.

You're right. Tad bit of an exaggeration there.
But Gerrard is close to a one man team you'd probably find.
His determination and will to win was just ridiculous.

I find it crazy than anyone can put Gerrard on the same level as Scholes. Never seen anyone else in the PL control a game like Scholes. Even in his twilight years when Gerrard was in his prime he still schooled him. I'm not putting Gerrard down here; he was a very good player. But Scholes was different gravy.

Scholes played in league where it was even harder to dictate the tempo of the game as the PL has always been fast and direct, the Italian League suits Pirlo's and Scholes' style of play almost perfectly.. tactical, more defensive, and slow paced

For me the reason is gerrard was a quality player in a poor team for yrs. scholes was a quality player in a quality team and so didn't stand out as much. You always had the likes of ronaldo, beckham, Rooney etc etc taking all the plaudits yet without scholes I don't think we would have won trophies we did.
Gerrard albeit a very good player stands out more because he is the stand out player at Liverpool

Nothing a bed bath couldn't cure

Nothing wrong with an appreciation for skill. Scholes is the only player I have enjoyed watching beat Everton apart over the years.

And scholes was quite happy for others to take free kicks/pens, not shoving them out of the way and snatching the ball off them like some brat

---------------

To elaborate further my point on how Serie A suits both players mentioned more is that Pirlo and Scholes style of play is not to play at 100MPH but possession based and with a calculated and methodical approach.

Some teams try to employ that now in the PL but most of the time it is just to lump it down the pitch and or leg it down the pitch and try and head one in.
