How can you not have Scholes near the top if not the top?
He had it all and earned plaudits of some of the best midfielders in the world inc Iniesta.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So has Gerrard, yet I bet you wouldn't put him near the top.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not? Gerrard is a class player and if he was in the list I would have him near the top. I don't support Utd
Put fergie top of the list then

reporter - whats it like being the best midfielder in the world??
Zidane - I dont know, you'll have to ask paul scholes.
says it all really
Robbo was definitely better than Keane. No question. I think Scholes was the best of the lot personally. A marvel. He and Robbo were so different though, it's almost a Lampard/Gerrard call. Depends on which type of midfielder you like more.
Stef Eff was an incredible player as well. Keane and Vieira might as well = each other, seeing as their battles defined each others career almost. Davids was great, but not Keane/Vieira great for me personally.
Final personal list would be
Scholes
Effenburg/Robson
Keane/Vieira
Davids/Souness
Lambert

Pele named George Best as the world's greatest ever player.
The majority on here either wum or can't see past their own team and look objectively.
Gerrard is a fantastic player anyone saying anything else is an idiot.

and Zidane isnt crazy himself?
hes a fuit cake
For me
Keane for leadership qalitiesas well as abilities
scholes
Effenberg
robson
Viera
The rest
Robbo was definitely better than Keane. No question.
..............
I think most United fans who saw Robbo play week in week out would say that.
He just had that bit more to his game than Keano.
No he wasnr, and robbo wasnt capable of the perfroamnce keane gave against juve in 99.
pure sleflessness, just absoulutey sublime.
Robbo was better going forward... scored more goals and a better captain/leader than Keano
It’s difficult to choose they were all great players.
For me Paul Scholes was the best player, but maybe not the most important, I’ve seen Robson, Keane, Davids win games on their own.
As far as Souness is concerned, I am old enough to have had the displeasure of watching him. It was a different game then & he would most likely be sent off every game now. However, in those days he was one of the main reasons Liverpool were more successful than United. United had a good team in the 70’s but they were too lightweight in midfield, we didn’t have anyone who would “put a foot in” until Robson & Moses.

Can people ever give any more examples that the Juve game? Not questioning that performance, but it's all I hear when people try to justify his ability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
a standout performance in a career packed full of them for both club and country

Stretty's just an unhappy young lad who wants to find a way to assert himself somehow. Online is his medium to get his frustration out. He's got genuine opinions and some have fair merit, but he's so needlessly aggressive and stubborn you just imagine a poor kid who needed better role models growing up lashing out at the world to feel strong and validated. Honestly, no word of a lie feel sad for him. Condescending as that is.
