the cup winners cup.
ah yes, the league cup of european footy.
Deschamps you cretin.
I remember Chelsea signing him not long after that game and he was a shadow of the player he was before.
Why is Gatusso in this list
I never really rated Deschamps. What was it the Cantona called him?

Just had a look at the Everton 85 team/squad.
Obviously more of a settled 11 team than today's squad rotation. But by god, that was one hell of a team. I actually forgot how good they were. Probably because their period of success wasn't sustained.
...............................................................................
Babyen,
Even as a Liverpool fan they were to be admired. Big Nev was one of the greats & Sheedy had a wand of a left foot.
Funny enough Lineker arrived the season after banged in a truck load yet we pipped them to the post. They should've won three on the spin.
No qualms in saying they'd have been favourites to lift the European Cup that season for me.
"many commentators felt the Cup Winners' Cup was the easiest of the three competitions to win"
By the late 1990s, the CWC had come to be seen as a second-rate competition with only one or two big name teams available to enter each year and the interest in the tournament from both major clubs and the public dropped"

Yes you idiot, because of the reformation of the CL.
Before then it was a serious competition. Ask clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona how serious they took it.
Oh and SAF. He beat both of them in finals.
Just when I think you have outdone yourself for lack of football knowledge, you come along with something even more dumb.
Take my advice, don't comment on football, there must be a subject you know something about.

So by its end it was the league cup equivelant then.
Take my advice, dont comment on anything, ever, there is nothing you can offer anyone. Avoid your kids and trying to teach them anything, and avoid conversations with other humans in general.
So by its end it was the league cup equivelant then.
............
Was it open to every team in the league? No.
Did the teams in it play mostly youth players? Again, no.
So, it wasn't anywhere near the equivalent to the league cup.
Good lord son, you are having another mare.
Was it open to every team in the league? No.

But in european teams, it was the weakest trophy and easiest to win right?
Jesus Stretty. Your second to last post has me properly confused.

What in your opinion made Keane a far better midfielder than Souness?

robbo wasnt capable of the perfroamnce keane gave against juve in 99.
...............
This is quite possibly the most ill thought out comment I have ever seen in this forum.
The FA Cup final in 1985 immediately springs to my mind.
-----------------------------
I think that the younger fans who didn't see him in his prime severely underrate just how good Robson was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not me
------------------------
Are you classing yourself as a younger manager?
But in european teams, it was the weakest trophy and easiest to win right?
...........
Ask the great Liverpool teams if it was easy to win.
And I would say the UEFA Cup was considerd the weakest of the three at the time because you didn't have to win anything to enter it.
God Stretty you are way to young to be having this conversation if you can't remember any of this.
Thats two 'fans' Elvis.
Another three and that matches the City board.

He will now be in the middle of looking at youtube clips of Souness, so it may be a while.
I will say this, Keano wasn't as good in the last third of the field as Souness.

Well thank god weve established that early.
As for other guy. I have heard souness described as an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Keane for me is the best cm I havce seen if nothing else for his leadership qualities, that guy was mike tyson as well, he beat opponents mentally before the game and he had no quit.
The guy was a monster, and he was also a bloody good player to boot.
shame people in our fan base, not vc hes not a utd fan, seem to think hes bitter just because hes honest about the clubs flaws and has always spoken his mind.
Robbo licks the corporate shaft and this is why people say he is better tbh.

I'm not digging Keane out neither. He was a fantastic player, a key component of some of your best sides. A great leader as well.
I'd agree with your second comment.
I just want to know the thinking. Babyen had him only better than Lambert in that list & for Stretty he didn't even make it.
The way you yourself said earlier that Robbo is criminally underrated by some of your younger support I think along the same lines.

They tend to pick the current falvour of the month and can't see beyond that.
It is crystall clear Stretty is too young to have seen Robson or Souness week in week out, otherwise he wouldn't make such bold and ignorant statements.
